Hm, to my great surprise and unlike with most pets, Mrs. M. who's an animal caretaker and looks after quite a bunch of them tells me that no, to her knowledge there exist no vaccinations against anything they might carry (or to put that the other way around: they don't carry or spread anything that can be vaccinated against), and so theirs don't get vaccinated.
I was going to say for lack of a vet who deals in small pets, one can always try with one dealing in larger livestock, they may well do this on the side. But seems unnecessary in this case then ![]() nb And to hark back to the original and far older question, The two aren't related if that's what you meant. Rabbits and contrary to popular perception are not rodents.

Don't know anything about guinea pigs but on Google I found quite a few sites:
http://www.2ndchance.info/guineapigcare.htm http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/small-...-pig-care.html http://www.cavyspirit.com/care.htm http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_carerabbit_horse_ and_other_pet_care/how_to_care_for_guinea_pigs.ht ml http://www.2ndchance.info/guineapigcare.htm Apparently they do not need any vaccinations.

COngrats. But breeding of Guinea pigs is not at all recommended. It may prove fatal for them. The new mom needs real good care. You should be feeding her with more Hay and Pellets. I hope you have a good pet shop in Jaipur. After 18 days separate any bore (Male guinea pig) from the group as after 21 days he is good enough to impregnate the females. He could Impregnate his own mother. Which may be way too fatal for her.
I would recommend you to join this amazing forum. The members here are passionate about Guinea pigs and you can get best advice. WWW.GUINEALYNX.INFO If you are really concerned I can help you out, as I have quite a good knowledge now. I am from Chandigarh. Best of luck. |

Well as far as the Vet is concerned, you won't really find a rondentologist here. I really doubt. I can give you a few tips on how to judge the vet. I take my guinea pig to a regular vet. I called up 5-6 Vets before narrowing down to this one. Does your Guinea pig scratch, or has any bald spots. Those are the only major concerns. Not literally, but yea. Call up the vet and ask him about the dosage of 'ivermectin' to the Piggies. If he tells you that it should be given in a real small quantity and others medicines that should not be given to the guinea pigs then he is good to go. My vet knew quite a lot, which helped me decide upon himm

You may want to try the animal rescue shelters as they sometimes have foreign vets working with them and they may have a little more experience or knowledge about gps.
I remember there is one British vet connected to a shelter in Jaipur, he has been there for many years but unfortunately I can't remember with which shelter he works. But I guess if you ask around it should be easy to find out. Just found it again, the name is Dr. Jack Reece and he is with HIS (see: http://www.his-india.org.au/index.html)and also (on: http://www.hsus.org/hsi/local_empowe...ce_061407.html) |

Cost will be between 300 - 500 per pig. You can check out the Pet shop in defence colony , they normally have them
