Great vet in Bombay - pref Bandra area?

hey all... anyone have a vet they love in Bombay? I've never been happy with ours. He is *very* rough with our cats, although he talks to us like he is fairly knowledgeable, he just has no animal bedside manner. They are used to US vets that ooh and ahh and love them as much as we do. I'm hoping to find someone fast who will be gentle and kind. This is to get vaccinations and medical certificates so they can leave the country. Any thoughts?

Even better if they are in the general Bandra area and someone who does house calls.

thanks ever so

jude

P.S. Great that you are taking your cats back with you. So many people just dump them when they leave.

Let us know how it goes. I would not want to recommend them again if your cats scream .

By the way, I loved your stories in the other thread about walking in Mumbai and the strays following you, it is very recognizable .
And you are so right, after they have their basic food needs fulfilled the thing they need most is just love.

Thanks so much. They gave us the number for a local vet and he is coming tomorrow. It's mainly when they check their kidneys.. in LA the vets are gentle and sloooowly squeeze in through the flesh to get to those little organs to check size and feel.... but our last guy pinched hard and meanly and hurt them greatly. He didn't know how to hold them to give shots or to check them over, and just didn't seem to like cats at all. As long as this guy is gentle and likes animals... that's all I ask. It interests me... what makes someone become a vet in India. In the west it's a love of animals, primarily, and often a decent wage comes with it. Here I doubt a the money is very good.. and the study is hard... so is it the same thing?

I love my little connections with the animals here. They are so neglected, but they have such stories to tell. All I have to do is cluck my tongue and they always know I'm talking to them. they'll come from far away and I can sense their pride at walking with me... at that companionship. For a little while they have their own human. All the dogs here have such kind eyes, and a little up-turned 'smile' on their lips. They love a pat on their heads and just to be given some acknowledgement that they are there.

My travel doctor in LA kept saying 'don't touch any dogs' but I have to say I ignored that and am glad I did. Unless there is a bad skin disease, I try to give at least a little pat of encouragement. You know how each one of them would make such a lovely pet if given the chance. Hmm... I wonder though... when I watch them running around, wrestling and growling in play-fights, sleeping deeply on piles of sand, I wonder if they would want to be anywhere else? It's a dogs life.

Happy to hear at least one thing went well yesterday in Mumbai. I know it is a very, very tiny thing but still.

Can you give me the name and contact details of the vet so I can ask for him next time.

By the way, you doing a fantastic job yesterday and today keeping us all up to date. I switched off all other news sources as you were the most efficient one! Perhaps you should consider a career move into journalism .

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on with getting your cats out of India.

Oh birds!! thankyou so much! That means a lot I'm not doing anything.. just telling what I can. I can never vouch for its accuracy.. but as long as people feel they know what might be happening

The Vet is Dr Sanjiv Rajadhyaksha - Small Animal Clinic and Surgical Centre in Khar(west) clinic # 26058550 Cell 9820237028

the awful thing is we have to send the cats to Canada to my parents. We will be in Bangkok for a few months until work in Canada comes through.. being without the cats is going to be really hard But we have to do what is best for them. No quarantine!

Thanks for the vets details. I am sure they come in useful one day.

Going to Thailand is now also not a nice option. I guess you know what is happening over there and it is not good. Be very careful!

We also work quite a bit in Thailand. Now I am not sure when we will be there next. .

Sigh.. I know. We feel so sad for Thailand too. They are such kind and sweet people, as you know. I have been watching eagerly... and I don't know which side is 'right' or 'wrong' .. if there ever are such things... but I know it must be bad if such polite and quiet people will take these measures.

Our friends there feel it will end soon. We hope so. It is very safe on the streets of Bangkok, we never go where the protests are. Hope it is a painless end.. whatever happens.

Lightbulb Who???

Could you advise the name of the vet you used to deal with here in Mumbai, and whether he deals with dogs. This would be a great help.
