Good news

Maybe this is the wrong forum - mods please change as you deem fit.

We had adopted a little street dog, thanks to the efforts of a stellar young man who takes care of these animals in his spare time. She is about 6 mounths old now, and is adorable.
Well, we got a call from Sharad (the stellar young guy), and Daisy's mom had another litter. Apperently the mom is hard to get hold off, and despite offers for free spaying from our Vet, she manages to have fun.

So, 4 more puppies on the street! Sharad was able to adopt out 2 of them (Daisy's siblings, sort of). The story kind of ends when we got a call from the Principal at my kids' school. My son, so proud of him, went to her and explained the whole situation. So, she asked us if the school could adopt a puppy.

Of Course!

Monday, American Excelsior will have a new mascot!

Birds - you'll be happy to read this!
Cheers, all!

Wow! Amazing story . It indeed makes me very happy to see that little kids take initiatives that improves the welfare of animals. And what initiative, who would have thought that a school would be willing to adopt a stray. Both your son and the school also set a great example. It shows again how a simple action of one individual can make a world of difference!

You clearly brought your child up with great values!

Thanks for sharing this great story. I hope it will inspire others and other schools.

P.S. Perhaps the local animal shelter can arrange for a trap cage to catch the mother. I use it for difficult strays. It does not hurt the dog and works really well.

birds, Thanks!

Actually it's better than we expected. The school is having a 'ceremony' on Monday, in the morning to introduce the puppy to the school. Sharad has been invited too
The puppy will have a great life, and well taken care of.
People like you and Sharad are inspirational. Thanks!!!

Dear all,
an update from the Principal,.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Parent

Greetings!!!

As you may be aware that we are planning on having a School Dog as a pet. We are happy to inform you that the dog is arriving on Monday. Hurray !! Everyone is very excited about welcoming the new member of the excelsior family. The Pet has been tentatively named " Pan Cake", however, the contention over the choice of name is still on. Hopefully, this issue will resolve once the pet is here on monday morning. We also request parents to send us their suggetion for the pet's name.
Looking forward to an exciting welcome ceremony which begins at 0900 am on Monday, 31st August 2009. .
If any parent wishes to join us you are most welcome to come and be a part of this celebration.

A special Thank you Mrs & Mr. T for helping us in getting the dog.

Thank You

With Warm Regards,

Shalini

The ceremony was fantastic!

The kids lined up and welcomed the very tiny puppy - who loved the adoration. She will be well taken care of, and receive a lot of affection.

Sharad and my kids deserve special thanks to help this happen. We all were a little overcome, sseing the kids just pet the little puppy so much. I am hoping to post photographs soon.

And a VERY special thanks to Shalini and American Excelsior for setting such a great example.

Oh, and By the way, the puppy has been rename 'Daffodils'.

Daffodils is good !

It would be good if this story could make it to the press that way other schools might follow suit.

In my opinion all offices should have dogs and cats too.

We have dogs in our office (obviously ) and our staff loves it. Of course at first new employees are a bit taken aback but they get used to it very fast.

Whenever people are stressed they go into the garden and play with the dogs, when one of them is sad there is always a dog that snuggles up to him and the dogs, etc. It has improved the atmosphere and encouraged teamwork.

I am sure it will work the same way in the school!

What city did this happen in?
It's a great media opportunity to raise the profile of Indian street dogs. They would probably still like to cover the story even though the ceremony has already taken place if you are in a city where the major papers have an edition.

We are really happy for Daffodil (although Pan-cake was more warm and affectionate name) and for what you, your son and Sharad have done for her. And of course your sons' school and Ms. Shalini, the Principal deserve great applause for setting up such an example.

We,that is my family, look forward to see the photos of the function. Please upload soon.
