Just resting.
Yes indeed. I seem to remember there was an update, to reflect the changes in the consumer society since the original sketch... "This parrot is dead." "I'm very sorry, sir; would you like an exchange, or a full refund?". Not as funny, somehow...

Reminds me of this classic somehow: Top 20 Ways Microsoft Would Change The Auto Industry(See also If Cars Were Like Computers) Oh, and how could I forget: ACHTUNG - ALLES LOOKENPEEPERS (Based on the famous Monty Python sketch, to non-insiders.)

That would probably be the Scandinavian Fossil Parrot.
Doesn't mix well with Ferrets. Very bad taste to mention it in this thread! ![]() |

Although this sounds like a Monty Python routine, it would be relatively easy to take a small animal to India. They make nice carriers. It would be in place of carryon luggage under the seat. There is a fee, 100-200 USD or so for domestic carriers so... A medical certificate would be required. I recommend based on zero experience a mild dose of sedative. Reminds one of a comment, what have you got, a ferret in your pants.?

In a milder phase & trying to give the OP the benefit of doubt which I soon regretted (an obvious troll), I tried to address the practicalities of entertaining a highly curious and ever-active and agile and probably unfavorably-looked-upon small animal like this while touring India. Kindly refer back to the beginning of this thread.
I know people who keep them. They're quite intelligent and really entertaining, and they need a lot of entertainment, else they wither away. (Although they tend to become more relaxed as they grow older and having been treated well btw. They'll still require an appropriate amount of attention though.) (They also really like their own company, so imagine taking two or a bunch.) Sadly, many people just keep them for a short fad, as they're unable to keep up with precisely their needs of entertainment (and the according habit of destroying anything they can lay their hands on & disappearing down any nook and cranny they can find). Then they predictably get dumped, there are special shelters here for them with very few takers, alas. Needless to say, when neglected they get harder to handle, to downright aggressive, if not simply depressed. They can take to self-mutilation even I believe. They're said to require some four hours of human attention daily, even when kept in pairs or in groups. Remember, these are no wild animals and they have been domesticated for several thousand years (they don't exist in the wild and it's unclear what they have been bred from precisely), they need you for company and as a boss and caretaker. Hamsters or gerbils or even (quite intelligent by themselves) rats etc. they're not (themselves often maltreated btw.) If I hadn't said it already, dogs are said to be easier to keep. Ferrets are fun though if you're willing to make the time and effort for them, and remember they grow to be something like 10 years old or so. It's no short-term commitment. (Anyway: Why, oh why, did I ever even answer this thread seriously? I just like my pets and like to see them happy I guess. Anyway, no, Ed, I didn't assume you meant it very seriously yourself.)Last edited by machadinha : Jun 28th, 2008 at 03:39. |

We brace ourselves for posts about the problems caused by foreigners abandoning ferrets in India
.---actually, seriously, were that to happen I can imagine something of an ecological disaster. I think the ferret is pretty efficient predator! |

Did anyone in the UK catch the Channel 5 programme last night on "Extraordinary Animals", including working ferrets, used to thread cables and unblock pipes?
(I missed it, sadly ...) Why am I posting here? What has this got to do with India? What is the meaning of life? |

Sadly, I missed it as well. But I think I know the answer to your three questions!
Why am I posting here? Because you want to know if its going to be repeated. What has this got to do with India? Beacause there are ferrets in India too! What is the meaning of life? Its a film by Monty Python. ![]() |
