Why on earth would one want to travel with a pet ferret?
Many animals are not particulary fond of travel, let alone in India.I don't know whether you are allowed to bring them in but if a ferret is categorised as a rodent, I can imagine you may not. On the practical side of matters, most hotels and restaurants in India are not (yet) animal friendly and I can imagine that a ferret will freak people out a little. As I started, why on earth would you do it? Unless you are planning to move permanently to India. |

What kind of airline ticket does one get for a ferret?
This is so wild, I'm almost inclined to believe that it isn't a windup! |

Aren't ferrets often used as test animals in (medical) research? If that is indeed the case, it will be hard to convince customs you bring in this animal 'only' to travel with.
You are already aving a hard time to convince me... |

I just hear they're not allowed in Portugal, just for instance (you're not allowed to keep them there either for some reason). I'd call your embassy or airline company about it.
The wiseness of it all I'll leave up to you. You can expect a lot of attention I guess (as if you wouldn't have a lot of it without the animal already), and I imagine e.g. fellow train passengers and so on won't all be very pleased with it. You'll also have plenty on your mind not having some small pet to look after. I toyed with the idea (being young & wild and all ) of bringing my dogs to India on my first trip. Once there, I was very happy I didn't. For me, and even more so for them. Now while a ferret may be more portable it's also harder in a way to look after, but you know your animal I'm sure. My advise: find a good baby sitter for it.

Leave the ferret and get a temporary mongoose while you're there - same family . . .

Ferret
Just am wondering if Ferret are allow in india. I really like the idea of travelling with my pet as I cannot find any baby sitter around and it would cost a lot just as much to baby sit during the time.

Yes, you said so three times now. Do you take it back and forth to Norway with you where you're posting from? If so, shouldn't you be the one knowing how to handle airlines and borders with it?

This had better not be serious . . .
If this is serious, then I am unimpressed by your treatment of your pet. Yes, that's harsh, but I really think you haven't thought about this.
Ferrets DO NOT COPE WELL WITH HEAT!!! I repeat: YOUR FERRET WILL SUFFER AND MAYBE DIE!!! You would have to find a way to keep it seriously cool - short of an air con cage I don't see how you'd do it. They are also sensitive to cold, and I really don't know how they would cope with altitude (just to stop you thinking "oh, I'll take it to Nepal instead") In addition, ferrets are vulnerbale to a range of diseases including rabies-you would have to have it vaccinated. Then there is the fact that they need a lot of attention to be happy-what are you going to do if you go sightseeing for the day, or want to go somewhere that won't take your ferret? Then there are the monkeys and dogs which roam around in parts of India-to them a ferret would be dinner, and I imagine a monkey especially could snatch it pretty fast! How would you feel then? Ferrets do have a strong odour, and any animal makes a mess - are you going to carry a cage, clean it out etc. and pay hotel managers for any damage caused? As you must know, ferrets like to knaw, explore, escape and generally cause havock! I don't want to make a personal attack on you if this is an honest mistake; it is possible that you have just not thought at all about what you are doing. If you have thought about it and still decided to go ahead then frankly I'm disgusted. The kindest thing to do if you want to go away for months is to find a new home for your ferret. Try and do this in advance so you can help it to settle in, as you will know the animal and may be better able to train it to its new environment, as well as helping the new owner get used to any of its quirks (ferrets seem to automatically come with some quirk or other). Do make sure the new owner knows that they are taking on a demanding pet - not as independent or hardy as a dog or especially a cat, but cannot be left caged and alone for the same lenght of time as a hamster (at least not without seriously distressing it).

Well whether it's 100% serious or not .... he's certainly making a valiant attempt to find out.

Why would you want to bring a ferret to India? I had two pet ferrets when I was a kid.. I lived in Oregon. We were going to go camping in California and I wanted to take my ferrets (Scooter and Tinkerbell) with us, but my dad said it was illegal to import Ferrets across the border into California.. I don't know if it's true or not.
Ferrets are fun pets. Mine ate cat food, slept with the cats and had a giant doll house for a home.. |

Panipuri - OP posted in June and hasn't replied since last post before yours. Now since (through IM!) I have discovered the meaning of 'troll' I think OP may be one! If not, OP leave your ferret at home, it is a ridiculous idea from my point of view. It won't be welcome in guesthouses or hotels.
