Good to hear that Chuki is fixed :-).

I work mostly with stray dogs and we are seeing more and more abandoned 'pedigree' dogs so we are very sensitive to this. But anybody who takes care of his/her dog is welcome in my book!

I know that just last week Angeline has booked some dogs from Goa to the UK on Qatar Airlines and she told me that they are relatively cheap and well organised so you may want to consider them.

If, after India, you are planning to take Chukie back to Qatar or elsewhere, make sure that you keep all paperwork and that you know what are the rules in Qatar to take him back because some countries do not allow dogs coming from India.

Good luck!

Hello Birds,

Angeline replied on our query, thanks again. Just hoping that everything will turn out right with the transporting. Just keeping my fingers crossed, i will be very sad if my dog will not be able to come with us

Anyhow, i admire people like you who helps stray dogs. I will ask my husband if he wants to adopt another dog in the future and will contact you if ever. I love dogs too, Chukie is like part of our family

Bless your heart. And more power to you! Hope to meet you there too.

Hi Again,

I had told Angeline that she could expect to be contacted by somebody from Doha. Bringing a dog into India is easier than taking one out, so I think you will be fine. In any case, Angeline knows everybody at the airport so she can always organise things on this site. I am sure I will hear from her how things go and hopefully we'll meet when you are here.

It would be great if you can adopt another dog! And if you can't you can perhaps help getting some local dogs sterilised. The more we sterilise the better.

Good luck with the travels!

At the moment there are three kennel facilities in North Goa that I can recommend:

Manuala, a German lady, near Mapusa, tel: 228 9676

Caroline, an very experienced Indian lady, near Nerul, tel: 240 1204

Hannah, a British fully qualified vet nurse, near Porvorim, tel: 651 1848

There is also a certain Reece in Mapusa but his kennels are unreliable. I know of a dog that escaped there and was never found again. And there are other stories too which are worse.

In South Goa I don't know anything for sure but heard to GAWT offers kennel services, see: http://www.gawt.org.

Lastly, the fees for kennel services have increased a lot lately and are now between Rs.200 and Rs.300 per day.

Domestic dog travel query

Thanks for great info BIRDS, as usual.

Another quickie: I wish to bring my dog from Hyderabad to Goa. Should I still contact Angeline from Travel Bar with my queries, or does she only deal with international relocations?

cheers

You can contact Angeline for assistance (which can be handy because of all her airport contacts) but it is not too difficult to organise yourself with either Jet Airways or Indian Airlines. You need the approved cage, labels with name and contact details on the cage and on the dog and you need to check whether on the route you want to take the airline is using a aircraft with a cargo area that can support animal (enough oxygen, heating, etc.). Also if your dog is an adult dog make sure you mention that clearly because some aircrafts (notable those of Jet Airways) can not transport big dogs (I have no idea why not). You have to book the dog in advance and make sure you speak with the cargo manager as they tend to know all details best. As far as I know there is no specific paperwork or permission required to move a dog from one state to the other. Good luck!

She has build them as a rescue facility but will also board dogs at INR 100 per day. Some may find this expensive but for others it may just be a solution.

This woman has a big garden (with a dog pool ) and would walk the dogs several times a day as well.

As this is not a commercial venture she does not want her details published so if anybody is interested do let me know.
birds,as said earlier by me,I am interested in boarding for two dogs, from the 31stof october 2010,to the 3rd of november. Thanks.

Contact Hannah, a British fully qualified veterinary nurse, near Porvorim, tel: 651 1848. At Hahhah's the kennels are separated from each other so it is a good place for dogs that are a bit skittish. She also has a run and often she takes the dogs with her in the living room. Really at the moment these are the best kennels facilities in Goa.

I would not know something for you personally but I suggest you contact Angeline from TravelBar (tel: 9850 471639). She should be able to help you further with accomodation.

I am from Chennai and my dad who lives in Goa would like to visit us, but he has a dog and lives alone.Could you pls tell me about this friend of yours so we can make arrangements at the earliest to keep the dog with her. Do send me the details and her charges. Would be most obliged if she can keep the dog while my father comes to visit us.
