yes, yes, yes. the gods willing, it will happen this week. I have had technology (necessary for my paid work) problems for the last nine days.
Also, I am still waiting for a copy of the letter you sent. Also, please confirm that the priest in charge is malayali so I can take the appropriate interpreter. |

The priest Father Sabu - speaks good English - he worked in New York for 4 years recently ......... re the letter I sent - I have not got access to the letter at the moment .
Remembering the content of the letter I suggested the following 1 Constant access to water for the dogs 2 Regular exercise 3 Hugely bigger caged areas for all the dogs I even offered to contribute to the costs of providing better areas . Amazingly the goats at the Ashram "farm area" had a large area with a pond AND they were taken on a daily walk. |

lol - am happy for the goats
we are kitting up now and plan to go in before the end of this week you should be aware though that it will be difficult to ascertain whether the dogs are now being walked regularly (as he has claimed to you) without being there 24/7. This would mean joining a christian ashram which, I think, is beyond the call of duty. Will get back to you with pictures. By the way, how do you get in? |

Access is not a problem - open gate 24/7.
The Ashram is also used as a Conference Centre and an ayurvedic Hospital has an annex there too .....dogs and Farm area is to the left when you enter - follow road round and past the Hospital......dogs,goats,ducks ,rabbits, cow and calf housed just beyond the new buildings being worked on . The priest did not say they were being exercised, his daughter told me when I rang recently, that the dogs were let out of the cages sometimes ! |

After motor bike problems and a chest infection that has lasted a month, I have finally managed to get out to see the dogs. It took a long time to get there as the directions that were provided were a little misleading.
The 4 dogs are housed in three separate caged areas. All of the cages were very clean. One cage had food, one cage had water and the other cage had nothing (see photos). They all looked in very good condition. Without staying there for a considerable period of time, it is not possible for me to confirm whether they ever get walked. While their circumstances are less than ideal, their situation is better than that of 99.99999% (exactly) of dogs in India. Is that good enough? Probably not - and I encourage you to continue to correspond with the Ashram and encourage them to find good homes (of which there are a large number in India) for the dogs as it is not appropriate for them to be constantly caged. the restrictions on uploads means that I can only upload 1 of three photos. The other two are just over 100kb. any suggestions? |

Hi Gaja!
Good to hear you are feeling better. And great you could finally manage to go and see the dogs. It doesn't sound too bad, I hope they do get walked sometimes. Since they look healthy and clean it's likely they get a walk as well. If you could ask the people to provide water for ALL of the dogs instead of only one (why?) that would be great. Especially in this current climate ... Re. uploading of photos: try to crop the pictures first in a photo editor so they become smaller.

Thanks for your trouble making the trip to see the dogs - their condition is as I reported .... and although good by Indian standards not good when this is a Christian Ashram where high standards should be set for all the many individuals and families who visit the Ashram . I will keep in contact with the Priest at the Ashram . Thanks again .
