| Cats for Sale in Hyd/Sec'bad? So, it looks like I'm staying in Hyd for at least a year and I'm missing my sweet kitty cat. Damn me for not bringing her to India! (Although I'm sure the feral cats would have eaten her alive in a matter of minutes!) Dad said she's not coming inside the house anymore and only comes around to eat. Won't let anyone pet her. Poor Sassy-wassy, she must miss me something aweful. Ahem. Anyway, so I want to get a TAME cat. There are plenty of wild cats around, I know. I caught a small black kitten and kept if for 3 or 4 days but he wouldn't eat and wouldn't calm down (crying/meowing no stop..) so I released him and he still hangs out near our house with his mama but they're both so damn wild.. I don't really like kittens that much, I prefer adult cats. But, I guess it's best to get a kitten. Where can I buy them in Hyderabad? I often go to the animal market in Old City but they never have cats. Mostly birds and goats and sometimes puppies (would love to get a dog too but my in-laws are Muslim and anyway they're already mad because I bought two small rabbits and the cats (mama cat as mentioned above) killed them both and then I bought a lovebird that never shuts up) Also, what about vets & vet costs? I'd need to get the little bugger fixed. India does not need anymore unwanted cats, that's for sure. Do you have any kittens you can give me? Or do you know where I can buy/get friendly felines free from freakish diseases? |

| Sorry, please correct me if I 'm wrong, from your original post I understand you already have a cat (the mother of the kitten you tried to tame) and a parrot and you are in India for another year? If this is correct can I suggest (1) you refrain from purchasing a pet unless your intention is to take it back to the USA with you (2) make a donation to a local animal refuge or volunteer with one (that will give you access to the benefits of pet ownership without the downside). I am sure that your intentions are good but pet care is for life. |

And everyone who is concerned about me having "throw-away" pets, the lovebird isn't actually MINE, something I can't get my lovely MIL to understand. It belongs to another expat who is out of the country for a few months. As stated, I would certainly take the cat to the vet for injections and to get it fixed. It would be an inside cat, since the feral cats here are brutal. I'm not an irresponsible pet owner, I've had the same cat for six years (Sassy) And if I get a pet here, I have plenty of relatives who will take care of it while I'm out of the country. | |
