Cats eating... rice?

One of our cats is eating dry uncooked rice --- we put it out for the birds.

I wouldn't worry if it was cooked, but dry? I'm concerned thjat it will expand in her digestive system and do harm.

Anyone know?

from my cat-ty friend :

cats too eat grass and stuff = roughage, for their digestive tract.
no worries.

I know about the grass, but rice specifically worries me.

But many thanks, all!

I wouldn't worry about the rice. rice expands when cooked and unless the cat has an internal temperature of 212F (sorry, don't know the celcius boiling point!), the rice won't boil! I agree about the roughage and the vitamin deficiency.

my diabetic cat Jack (who has a new lease on life with new insulin by the way) eats all types of stuff -- he especially loves corn, peas, and avocados!

I used to have a cat called Chopin who ate melon, rinds and all. If there was a melon in the house she would go crazy!

I used to have a cat that ate grains and Dhal and stuff --- but cooked, not dry!

In fact, I understand it is common for Indian house cats to have their non-veg padded out with rice and stuff, but it gets cooked first.

Shame this cat is competing with the birds here, this is supposed to be their food!

Our nutty cat eats popcorn. You can't have a one delicious white puff in peace anymore without her springing like a jungle cat onto the arm chair and then continuing to encroach on and 'whisker in' on your space until she has that quested kernel in her jaws.

I'm teaching her to say "fish". The way they shout when it appears, they may a well try to say the right word.

The boy-cat makes no progress: he seems unable to get past Meee-ow.

Yogeshwari, his sister (the rice eater) sometimes does seem to be saying 'meen' --- the Tamil for fish.

She's no vegetarian!
