Smile Great thread!

This is a great thread, learned lots of new stuff, will surely be useful for others in the future and may actually encourage people to take dogs back home, exactly what the animal forum is supposed to be Thanks all.

Thanks Guys for the links etc and glad to see my post has been useful to others. Birds - yes we can visit our girls in quarantine, they are open every afternoon so we can visit as often as we can.

Piglet's Mum is alive and well (was in Jan anyway). 'Blackie' is the top female on the beach, unfortunately producing regular litters. A beach shack owner claims she is his, but I've been told that's a pack of lies and she is left to fend for herself during the monsoon, just like all the others.

Piglet had one brother - a gorgeous dog with golden eyes, who sadly didn't survive the monsoon in 06. Skinny is Piglet's half sister, the runt of the next litter after Piglet. Skinny also has 2 sisters, and when we left Goa in January Mum was very heavily pregnant again.

So from one bitch you can see the huge problem; we've had our two sterilised, but there is Mum and 2 daughters (Skinny's 2 sisters) who are producing and the next litter will be a couple of months old now.

Unfortunately the Goan family who is keeping an eye on our two are doing so as a personal favour. They run the beach shack that our dogs have adopted, and dole out the dried dog food that we left. They have promised to get in touch if the girls need any treatment (they are aware of Animal Tracks), but that is the extent of the care they can provide. During the monsoon they will not be able to feed them, as it will cause huge fights with the rest of the dogs - they congregate around the local houses when the tourist season finishes (to beg for scraps).

By sterilsing our dogs, we have assured them the best chance of survival (hopefully) as anything they eat will nourish them, not pups. I hope to go back to Goa during the monsoon to bring them back. This is Piglet's 2nd monsoon(she barely scraped through the first) and Skiny's 1st - so my heart is telling me not to leave it too late...

Birds - would have loved to meet in Goa for a drink - we miss it. Hopefully we may be able to in the future.

Hi Dippy,

The monsoon rains have started here. So far not too bad but miserable nevertheless for the dogs outside. The sooner you can get them the better. Did you get any news about Piglet and Skinny yet?
