Anyone want to be a hero?
I returned to Bangalore three weeks ago from my month-long US holiday to some good news and some bad news. My first day back in India I went looking for my feline and canine buddies to do some catching up. In the case of the ginger tom Templeton, he came looking for me as usual. I found the dog who I meet at my bus stop, the dog who is near the auto stand by my house and I found Ram at the construction site down the road. But no Leo. He had disappeared and no one seems to know what has become of him. As he was nearly grown I am hopeful that he just moved on but it is hard to say. Though Leo was no longer at the construction site I was greeted by 2 newcomers, two sweet and adorable motherless little puppies, one girl and one boy. For the past 3 weeks I have been feeding them and playing with them until a week ago I was greeted with the sad news that the little girl had been hit and killed by a vehicle. I was of course devastated and now I am very concerned for the safety of the little boy. He is a very sweet and friendly puppy and has the most adorable reflex to roll on his back in order to get his belly scratched as soon as you get near him. He is maybe a couple of months old and is white with black spots (see attached pics). I am not able to keep him as I won't be able to bring him back to the US with us when we return but I would love to find this very special fellow a home. I would be willing to pay for his vaccinations and sterilization if someone would be his and my hero and step up and open their home to this loving guy. I have met plenty of street puppies, all of whom I loved and adored but this one is even more special. I can promise you it will be one of the best decisions you have ever made. If anyone is interested please just PM me and I will work out a way to get in touch. Thanks.

Hi Suzi, great of you to help this little fellow!
The way we deal with such cases is that we foster the pup for a few weeks to make sure they gets strong and healthy. In this time we bath them, deworm them, give the seven-in-1 and the rabies vaccinations and give them Neem baths to get rid of fleas. Once the puppy is looking good, we place advert in the local paper emphasising the health, beauty, other positive points and that they are fully vaccinated. This gets normally get about 10 to 15 replies. When people know the pup comes from a good home they tend to be interested. Once they come to see the pup we make sure they have pretty collar, a nice, unusual name and we make a certificate with on the front, the name, date of birth and a description of the dog. On the back we write when they were vaccinated and dewormed and when the next vaccinations and de-worming is due. We also make a little 'dowry' which contains of a food bowl, a bottle of calcium supplement (Ostopet is the easiest available in India), a piece of neem soap, some food or chews and a clean piece of cloth on which they can sleep. We also tell them that we will come to pick the pup up again at six months for sterilisation. This may not be possible in your case so what you can do is give them a voucher. You can arrange with CUPA that the person who hands over this voucher will get a free operation and you pay CUPA in advance for this. If the pups are presented like this people tend to fall in love with them and take good care. It helps them a lot knowing they do not need to worry about vaccinations and sterilisation. This also allows poorer people to take a dog. In fact, it happens that people who have taken pups through us refer other people. Just in case the details of CUPA are: No.4 (old No.39/1), Thimmaiah Garden, 1st Main Road, New Devegowda Road, near R.T. Nagar, Bangalore -560 032 Tel: 22947311 / 22947312 / 22947300 / 22947301 email: cupablr@gmail.com (for map: http://www.cupabangalore.org/animalcareclinic.htm) Please do not just dump him at CUPA as they get more puppies than they can deal with and have to euthanise many. Good luck and let us know how things go!
