Anyone in Pune missing a lab or lab mix female? Found one ...
Hi all!
Just on the off chance someone in Koregaon Park, Pune, is missing their dog ... We found a wandering female lab (or lab mix) today. She had made her way into our small cul-de-sac road and looked very lost. She was chased by the street dogs, panting heavily, limping, and looked very distressed. She seems maybe 10 years old, is quite fat and wears a leather collar. So we guessed she must have run away from her home, or got spooked by the Ganesh procession which was at that time passing through our neighbourhood and ran off and lost her way. We approached her and she was very friendly, and simply lied down, refusing to get up again. Maybe her leg was hurting too much. As the street dogs were all over her we put her in our front garden for the time being. She is fine now, she ate and drank and is resting. We have called our vet and will call other vets when we can reach them (Ganesh - people are unavailable etc). Sweet thing she is. Very friendly. I hope we will locate the owners!

Perhaps you need to advertise the fact around the neighbourhood.
The dog may not have travelled too far because of the limp. |

Yes, we will certainly do that tomorrow.
I also noticed she has a lump in her left armpit. Here is a pic of her |

here's something especially for you noodle and billyshake
![]() An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of. He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks. Curious I pinned a note to his collar: "I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap." The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: "He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 - he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?" i'm sure after you notify most vets - the owner will be found. she's a darling ![]() :brishti |

I do believe at least one of our cats does that.
We never see him, sometimes not even for breakfast, until late afternoon or early evening. |

brishti, thanks, very cute.
Is it a true story? Madame is sleeping now, and it's starting to rain. I wonder if she will go and lie down on the mat, which we showed her and where it's not getting wet, or keep her spot from which she hasn't moved voluntarily since her arrival. Earlier she shook hands with my hubby (she offered the paw) Isn't she a lady? |

Yap, you're right, she wanted to go home! Half an hour ago she was standing at the gate in the drizzle, so I decided to go out with her and see where she leads me. Well, about a 10 min walk from here she stopped at a large metal gate, tail wagging. So, I tentatively knocked on the gate (hoping I'll not wake some unappreciative non-dog owners) and out came a woman who was of course her owner! She was very happy and grateful, while the dog, who I found then out is named China and 12 years old, zoomed suddenly without any limp through the gate and in the house to no doubt a full food bowl she had not been able to empty tonight because of this little adventure.
The woman explained that she had run off because of the Ganesh noise and crackers, as we had guessed. She said they had been searching for her but because this had happened before and China is usually hiding somewhere until the commotion passes and then returns home, they had not been too worried. So all is well I'm glad she is home, and no doubt so is she! ![]() |

And to you brishti!
Not so sure if hubby is having a good night though Because when I walked back home, another dog followed me (total street dog), sweet guy, with a large scar on the back and a limp, looked like a healed fracture. He came all the way to my gate where of cause "my" street dogs have been awakening the dead since then, including hubby, who had been already sound asleep, and woke up with a sour face ![]() |

Great story Noodle!
It would be useful if people would be a dog label on the collars of their dogs with a telephone number. These are small metal round/rectangular plaques which cost between Rs.25 to Rs.500 (fancy ones from pet shops) and another Rs.25 to Rs.100 to get the telephone number engraved in it. On the market the guy who sells metal plates and tumblers made me 25 For Rs. 40 per piece including engraving. Discounted because of the quantity and because he loves dogs ). When people take one of our strays for adoption we give a 'dowry': one of these tags, a collar, a food bowl (imported!!, from IKEA in Singapore where I bought 150 for Rs 450)and an anti-flea shampoo. It works well. It makes the dog more important. .Perhaps an idea for this cute lab-owner, just in case China walks away again. |
