Angry Anybody for BAN on dog and cat fur?

I am not sure whether this is allowed on IndiaMike but Four Paws is collecting digital signatures to ban fur from Asia, often from dogs and cats, coming into the EU. I am sure some of IM's animal lovers would support this effort.

https://www.secureconnect.at/4pfoten...0704/index.php

Besides, the needed support there is another reason to place this on IM namely that once the Chinese run out of dogs and cats, they will surely look at other countries to sustain their marcabre practices. Already Indian rhinos, tigers, lions and gazelles suffer at their hands.

Lizards will be next as in Vietnam and Cambodia all lizards have been caught and exported to China. Apparently you can not find any gecko longer than a matchbox, see also: http://72.14.235.104/search?q=cache:...ct=cln k&cd=3 ).

So why not dogs and cats. A little prevent measure might help in the long term.

Please don't forget to understand Rikki-Tikki-tavi's plight:

.... with the strong art community here on IM - we might be able to make a bit of a statement.

Thanks Noodle and PeakXV for the support.

Also the mongoose! Will they stop at nothing? Just reading about these things makes me raving

I China I actually seen a lot of wild life and wild life products being traded.. In my opinion China is the single largest threat to the world's wild life!

It is great if we can mobilise IMers in all kinds of ways to help to protect whatever wild life/animals is still left. Every little helps.

20688 signatures!

And it seems to help!

The responsible Committee for the Domestic Market and Consumer Protection in the European Parliament released their report on 12th of April regarding a planned import prohibition of dog and cat furs. In this report, the committee recommends cancelling the legal loophole, which allows dog and cat fur imports into the EU if they do not originate from fur farms.

But keep signing because now the recommendations needs to be accepted and implemented.

Thanks .

Smile Austria supports complete ban

In Austria the minister of agriculture, Josef Pröll, assured that he will support the demand for a comprehensive import prohibition of dog and cat fur to the European Union.

An EU-wide regulation without any loopholes regarding the import ban of dog and cat fur will only be possible if the ministers of agriculture in the other EU countries will also give their support. The decision of the Council of Ministers is now expected on 11 June – we have to use the time until then!

Correct, but spreading the word, like you did put it on your German German Tierschutzforum website, and asking friends and family will help.

Talking Victory

On Tuesday the EU Parliament voted FOR a strict import and trading ban of dog and cat fur throughout the European Union. After extensive negotiations between the Council of Ministers and the European Commission the Members of Parliament rejected the loophole in the regulation which allowed for importing of dog/cat fur if it did not originate from fur farms. Instead no the import ban will apply to all pelts from cats and dogs no matter where they come from.

Just for your information in Asia (as far as I know excluding India), two million dogs and cats die for fur products every year.

A big thanks to everybody who helped by sending emails to support this bill (more than 160,000 were send from all over the world).

Maybe I should reconsider the Christmas gift I was planning for all my friends and family; Kitten Mittens.

People tend to attribute human qualities to Cats and Dogs. A coworker was recently contemplating whether or not to shell out $7000 for her 9 year old German Shepherd's hip replacement surgery.

I do see where you're coming from.

using dog and cat fur became popular a few years ago, generally as trimming material. i just signed a petition against the clothing manufacturer "guess" who has taken to the use of fur on their products. why not faux fur?

with re to the difference between cow leather and cat/dog fur, i personally do not see any difference, and choose not to wear leather, though there are the using the "whole cow" arguments. and the pet issue, but when i was a kid my grandparents had a pet cow, brownie. and all sentient beings deserve freedom from torture.

i once started watching a video on this fur issue but quit after about 10 seconds when dogs were being clubbed in the head. most of it is happening in china:

Chinese Torture

If you're wearing leather, it most likely came from China, because China is the world's leading exporter of leather. In addition to the cattle, sheep, and other animals who are turned into leather in China, an estimated 2 million cats and dogs in China are killed for their skins each year. Confined to wire cages in which they can barely move, these animals are routinely skinned alive and hacked apart, piece by piece, until they bleed to death. Many products made from the skins of dogs and cats are bought unknowingly by consumers, because the products are often intentionally mislabeled and do not accurately indicate their origin.

on this same page is more info about the leather than comes from india; a difficult read indeed...
