One sure shot way to know if is poisonous or not...let it bite you
How poisonous the snake will depend upon how fast can u do maths. So after the biting riutal is over.. & if u think 2+2 = 4 this means ur ok if u think 2+2 = 22, it was king cobra ![]() if u think 2+2 = 0, go see a doc asap. if u cant think maths, just run like cray from there ![]() ![]() Its strange how the mind behaves at 9.14pm friday night ![]()

in seriousness though, you should never run if you think you have been bit by a poisonous snake. the faster your blood is pumping, the faster the poison will go to your heart. go slow or better yet have somebody carry you to a doctor immediately.
i hope i am not taking taking all the humor out of a basically silly thread. |

Now that we know the snake is for real, it isn't silly any longer!

One of our carpenters saw it chasing a lizard this morning.
He says it's a cobra! and more than three feet long (over a metre). Mrs N is on the phone to the Govt snake people. They will send someone today to look for it! But... there is the canal, there is a lot of garbage in the area, so there must be lots of rats, there is the flooded plot next door so we have lots of frogs --- I'm sure it won't be our last snake. |

Anybody thought of the financial aspect ? In most countries that harbour poisonous snakes ,you are bought up to kill them on sight (or run away ),and as the only way to get the anti-venom is to milk the snake ,there is your market !! There must be an organization preparing the anti-venom and there basic requirement will be live snakes and they are willing to pay !!

It's Gone!
Well, one of them has, at any rate... If our carpenter did actually see a cobra, then that has not been found.
We called the forestry dept who sent a guy round this afternoon. He looked in all the corners, under all the rubble etc etc, and pulled up the plant most likely to have a snake burrow under it. Sure enough, the burrow was there, and, after some digging, this fellow jumped out. Apparently it is a rat snake, and is dangerous. Note the protective clothing, especially on fingers and toes, that this guy uses.... None! Not even a pair of closed shoes! He is, however, provided with a suitable form of transport for himself and his dangerous catches ---- he gets his bus ticket paid for! On top of his Rs.123 a day salary. So, if you find yourself sitting next to a guy on the bus who has a cloth bag, which is not quite as lifeless as you'd like a bag to be --- I suggest that you do not grab it! |

A lot of protective clothing in that heat is not really required ,all that is needed is your traditional forked stick and a nice big dark sack, The theory being that you pin the snake about 6/8 inches behind the head ,leaving it room to move .Offer it a dark retreat , the dark sack ,and it should slither in .Voila one caught snake
I have only had it go wrong on me once ,the viper ,a big old and clever one ,went up, over ,underneath and to the side ,but not in .It was then i found out were the method can go wrong ,concrete paths ,you can't pin the snake . One large and angry snake, rising up and striking . Managed to get it of the path and in the end into the sack .One nice big viper ,a beautiful creature ![]() |

Freenote... You can come and stay
![]() Preferably in the rainy season. This guy was even using his fingers to move away the soil. There was a moment's excitement when the snake leapt out at him, but then all it wanted to do was to run away. I missed the actual grab, but all was done by hand. He advised us that we could best get rid of snakes by flicking them away with a stick, if we fealt brave enough. But we don't. We'll call an expert .He also said that, he could hold most snakes without danger as long as they felt comfortable. |
