Cool picture, beautiful snake! Where was this? You should also add a warning - "Do not try this unless you know what you are doing".

Wow, Amyl... amazing experiences and sightings! And great pictures too.

I love the typo too... I don't think I'd worry about a kind cobra, but how do I discover it's nature?

Anyway, it is good to know that I don't have to worry too much about the spitting!

In my garden too........

but this one wasn't poisonous. Unfortunately, it had been destroyed prior to me returning home. Come to think of it, maybe it was just as well, because my dogs, had it been poisonous, would've tried to attack it

Count me with you...I do not even have a garden. Till now, I was having a nice lonely life in my apartment without any thought of snakes. After reading this thread I might never sleep again.

You can have one or two of our frogs, if you like...

But you'll have to provide them with water and insects!

Here's a photo of one of my resident serpents....
It's a harmless garter snake and am hoping it will deter pests that plague my vegetable garden. They seem to like the warmth along the south wall of the house so am thinking of adding a rock pile to provide shelter and encourage their presence.

Isn't it strange that I've seen more wild snakes here in Canada than during all my travels in India? Perhaps I haven't looked in the right places..... I don't count the types living in the baskets of flute players....

Here's a link to an interesting article about the Irula tribe in India, who are traditional snake catchers....http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...iansnakes.html

They mention >30,000 people die from snake bite in India each year... Yikes!!!

Prashant, that was at an island near here....Pulau Ubin (nope....u do not get veg/chicken Pulau rice there ... Pulau means island in some langugae...Malay IIRC)

Oh that typo is funny. I think I have got a knack for some good typos....in another thread I had said "flying boats" when I wanted to say "plying boats"

ummm well Nick....how about doing something like Steven does at 04:16 in this video? If one is allowed to do so then I think we can safely say the cobra IS polite.

BTW was just watching a DVD last night.... BBC Wildlife Specials Serpent presented by our well renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough. In that superb coverage of snakes got to know about Snake Island....Brazil property but ruled by a deadly venomous snake. So how about landing on this desert island after getting to read this line
Quote:
Experts say there’s one golden lancehead here per square meter (1.2 square yards). Each golden lancehead’s venom is five times more potent that of its closest relative, the fer-de-lance, responsible for most snakebite deaths in South America.
from here?
