Hi Noodle

Read your message, I have quite a few friends who are in business. Though am not sure whether they would be interested in pets, but i am sure they would not mind to give a donation and get a tax exemption for it. Will work on them.

Hi khambatafarhad! Sorry I overlooked your post.

Thank you for your support!

Here's an update on the cat enclosure situation:

My vet has talked to the two Parsis and they said Lila is probably fearing that I will want to interfere in the running of the place if she accepted such a large donation. They agree that she's at times rude and weird, and they doubt that she will change her mind.

So rather than waste more time arguing or waiting I have now decided to donate the cat enclosure to another shelter. There are several that sound good, getting numbers and addresses proofs to be a bit of an obstacle, but I'm getting there!

Talked to a very nice Indian Lady today who has been taking care of stray cats for many years. Catches them, vaccinates and spays, treats diseases, wounds etc, and tries to find good homes for them. She does all that from her own pocket and in her own flat, and could do with a cat enclosure - but has no space for it! Pity! She is just the kind of perosn I was looking for. Anyway I will go and see her and the cats (currently she has eight waiting for adoption), and will have some cash donations flowing her way

She said that there is a shelter called Aminal Farm that would really appreciate such an enclosure. It's run by an Indian woman who grew up in London and tries her best to run it according to Western standards, providing good care, clean housing etc. She also re-homes dogs and cats. She also takes old donkeys and horses etc in that have been used as working animals all their life. They can retire there in peace. I will try and meet her tomorrow.

Kitty Club is still eluding me, but we'll see if I can find out where they are located.

Nobody has ever heard of Noah's Ark - maybe a misunderstanding somehow?

Ok, guys, that's all for today!

Just a quick update: the cat enclosure is now being built at Animal Farm! It's a wonderful wonderful place, I was totally impressed by it. Never seen such a well run animal shelter in India.

More soon, pictures too.

In the meantime try http://www.animalfarmpune.com/

The site hasn't been updated in two years but you'll get an idea. It's greener now, as she has planted a lot of trees etc.

More soon - too busy at the mo!

Noodle!
I just finished reading this whole thread, and I am so happy to hear the latest news. I came across your thread because I will be in Pune for 4 weeks in January, studying yoga at the Iyengar institute. I've been to India once before, but was travelling around the whole time. Since I'll be in one place for the whole time, I would very much like to get involved in the community. Immediately I thought of looking for an animal shelter - how wonderful to find the latest news in this thread! It would be wonderful if I could come visit & help out a bit while I'm in town. Maybe you and I could meet up!

Hello ameyfm! Thats a nice thought, let's keep it in mind. Why don't you send me a pm once you booked your flight.

@all, sorry that I still haven't updated the thread. Reasons are varied. For one I have a workload at the moment. Then my dog was ill (is ok now!). And third, although the cat cage was delivered to the Animal Farm more than 3 weeks ago they apparently still haven't errected it, which I find a bit disappointing. For that reason I'm still not able to put up any photos of it here.

But hoping this will happen soon ...

Hi guys! I'm here! Thanks for enquiring about me!

The last 2-3 months were quite stressful, as we were moving at the end of December and had so much on our plates each day. Also took a long time for the ISP to move my line ... Well, we are now settled in the new house and all are well. My dogs and cats enjoy it because here they have a garden (terrace only before)! They all love it!

As for the cattery at Animal Farm - no good news. The last time I talked to her on the phone in December, they had still not put it up!! I just can't believe it and am pretty disappointed. It seems there is always something stopping work ... she had planned to build a little shelter which joins the cattery and the donations for that (50,000 Rs) had been promised but didn't arrive ... or some such thing.

She has had the cattery since end of August, that's more than five months, and hasn't used it ...

I had called her every month since Septmeber, every time there was something holding things back.

The result of this is that I'm hardly getting any donations sent anymore because the people in Germany who funded the cattery are obviously disappointed too and now donate elsewhere.

Well, that's the not-so-good news from Pune.

Any thoughts on this?

The few donations I still get I give to Jeev Raksha or to Adopt-A-Kitty, which takes care of abandoned kitttens.

I also have again a couple of strays who reside in front of our new place (driving my dogs into fits of barking ) whom I take care of and will soon have spayed.

Uh, my cat is complaining that I'm not coming to give him his well deserved attention ... gotta go ...

Update: finally some progress!

Got a phone call yesterday from Animal Farm - the cattery is finally standing!

Still not in use though cause they still have to finish the little house that serves as a shelter and is attached to the cattery.

But it should 'soon' be done

The delay was due to people in Bombay pledging a lot of money but delayed sending it and then didn't send as much as promised.

Anyway, seems we are crawling towards completion now. And then hopefully donation flow will pick up again, because the donors in Europe have been a bit miffed about the repeated postponements and stopped sending me any.

Planning to get out there in March (am too busy right now) and take a few pictures.

So long!
