General comments since I don't know details or nuances.

Many such organisations collapse because of

-somebody's greed
-somebody's wish to regain control, be the 'good person doing yeoman (yeowoman?) stuff for the animals, the poor... take your pick
-ego hassles

Noodle has to decide if it is one of these or something else.

I would, in noodles place, be looking elsewhere. What is to say she won't put a spanner in the works in another way after the money is paid?

Yeah, that's not always wrong, but I can't just wait because

a) fabricator wants the stuff out soon (ok, I can find another place to store it)

b) I don't have time (or not much) from mid-August till mid-October, so we would have to wait really long

c) the people who donated the money (some of them as long as 8 months ago) would like to see some action

d) then the cats also have to wait

All in all it would be sooo much better if the thing would be done now, but alas, doesn't look like it's going to happen!

I'm not giving her the money at all. I pay the fabricator.

Sorry, in that case after you are committed to her setup.

I meant, if you put up the enclosure at Lila's place, and she gets difficult and/or obstructive, or does not deliver whatever your understanding is, what can you then do?

That's exactly what I'm worried about and one strong point in favour of looking for another shelter where I maybe have a better rapport with the people, or similar ideas about how to keep cats, than with Lila.

Yep, my suggestion.. think over it as you and others have said, but thats what I would tend to do. Why do this where its not welcome?

Just to say that I am sorry you having this problem, knowing that you have been very committed.

I think everyone has said everything practical; the only thing that I would reinforce is not to think everything is over because she has one bad day (or two?).

Any project with outdoor building construction really should require consulting a lawyer beforehand to clear/review any possible zoning/municipal restrictions regarding the jurisdiction within where the facility is located. This can be a particularly important exercise in residential areas or locations bordering on residential areas. Don't know if this is a factor of the sudden break-down in communication .... but it's best for all to be on the same page - neighbours included - especially in India.

Peak, I thought about that too. But would it apply to a cage that's basically made of wire and has an iron sheet roof too? I thought these restrictions (as far as I have encountered them when my ex was re-building his house) would apply only to brick walls (permanent structures) and the height of structures.

But I will ask hubby, he will know better.

Thanks!

And Nick, thanks too for popping in!

Edit: hubby says it applies only to brick structures, and they anyway wouldn't enforce such restriction for a welfare trust.

As long as this structure (cage ? if I may say so) is located with in the premises of an authorised enclosure..there should be no problems..

Your original design sounded slightly larger then what it may be now. Was there a specific design/schematic for space to be used for the owners? Probably not an issue but always good to be absolutely sure.

Well, she has a boundary around her land and it would of course be built within that boundary.

Yes, I had planned 30 by 30, but that a) proofed to be far to costly, and b) she doesn't have that much empty space (apart from behind the house but there are no trees, so no shade). So we decided to make it smaller and nestle it inbetween some trees at the side of the house - the same trees which she now declared should be cut down. Something I find a stupid thing to do because they provide shade.

Maybe it's just an excuse for postponing or even getting rid of me? It all sounded so ... wrong .... I don't know ... *sigh*

Don't think about it for two or three days.

Then go back and see if anything has changed.

Give her the opportunity to have been having a bad day.
