Here's a baby mantis turned up in my garden today.

It was doing the stick-insect pretending to move in the wind thing, so was very hard to photograph.

I think it is magnified in the pic: not much bigger than an inch or so.

When it grows up, it mike look like this

I think the second one's more like a walking leaf or what are they called right? Another great shot.

It's a kind of a mantis, but I did send it to a bug site who were unable to exactly say what species.

I think I've got some photos of a more-usual green type somewhere.

Our garden is quite a food system... anything that small has a small chance
