And who is interested in IM?

This creature (what is it ) settled on my laptop early this evening and, now five hours later, is still at the same place. It is obviously waiting for me to open the IM site.

As any self-respecting stick Insect would!

If it still there, try blowing gently on it. It is, to me, one of the wonders of the world that a stick insect knows that twigs move in the wind, so it should do to!

Great find

In heavens name, it is a stick insect. There are almost 3,000 species of stick insect in the world. They all feed on vegetation and are one of the most popular forms of insect pets.

I cannot believe that people do not know what the little creature is.

My daughter, brought a couple from school to look after during the summer holidays(in England) She returned the two and left their offspring behind at the end of the holidays. Dozens of them. It is not possible to tell if they are 'with child'.

I am sure the neighbours who saw me picking their privot hedges thought that I was a few bricks short of a pallet load. (their food).

However these, like most of the creatures on the planet were here before we were. They are harmless (except to privet leaves) and a joy to ease the troubled mind, rather like the beautiful mantis.

I had a praying mantis in my home but I released him/her as I could not get it to eat anything, took some water off my finger though.

I love cats and insects, they never lie to me, never ask what my last girlfriend was like in bed, do not like shopping and most of all, never criticise or compare me with anyone else.

~When your cat falls asleep on your lap, nothing else is more adorable, until you feel the need to go to the bathroom~

I used to keep stick insects as a child. They say people look like their pets, and it was certainly right about me.

Fascinating things. And it only takes one to lay fertile eggs --- so you have the makings of a family there!

I think, this creature found your house to be the best place in Goa to take a overnight halt

Oh not stick insects! I have a phobia of them. I can handle a spider, but no way a stick insect or something similar. All started when I saw one when I was 7. Birds, you're a brave one... and I'm such a girl.

ah yes, the beautiful, romantic praying mantis.

from wiki:

The reproductive process in a majority of mantid species is marked by sexual cannibalism of the male by the female, and is an ongoing subject of research. The reason for sexual cannibalism has been the subject of some debate, with some considering submissive males to be achieving a selective advantage in their ability to produce offspring. This theory is supported by a quantifiable increase in the duration of copulation among male mantids who are cannibalized, in some cases doubling both the duration and the chance of fertilization. This is further supported in a study by J. P. Lelito and W. D. Brown[2] where male mantids were seen to approach hungry females with more caution, and were shown to remain mounted on hungry females for a longer time, indicating that males actively avoiding cannibalism may mate with multiple females. The act of dismounting is one of the most dangerous times for male mantids during copulation, for it is at this time that female mantids most frequently cannibalize their mates. This increase in mounting duration was thought to indicate that males would be more prone to wait for an opportune time to dismount from a hungry female rather than from a satiated female that would be less likely to cannibalize its mate. Some consider this to be an indication that male submissiveness does not inherently increase male reproductive success, rather that more fit males are likely to approach a female with caution and escape.
...

Sorry, but I find this to be fascinating stuff...
