6 floor fall and kitty's alive!

Yes, I just thought I'd share this with all of you.

In fact, it happened a few weeks ago now. My lovely little six month old indian kitty, a real ginger tabby, looks very much like a jar of marmelade, but that would be too obvious for a name so I called him Mowgli (he did come in from the woild so to speak!) fell from a 6th floor flat .
Anyway, Mowgli must have got restless, for while I was out at work one night (night shifts come with call centres!) I had a strange feeling, so I went home early. Only to find that Mowgli wasn't in the flat. I couldn't find him anywhere. It was at this moment when one of the guards told me he'd heard a cry and seen an orange cat flying!
I searched all over and finally found my little kitty under a bush not too far from the building entrance.

He was shaking and crying, and luckily for him the nasty street dogs hadn't squashed through the gate bars to eat him....
His mouth was covered in blood too and his legs seemed to be 'disconnected'. As you can imagine i was a total mess. Tears everywhere, the guard thought I was crazy.

At that time of night there was no "vet on call" so I took Mowgli back home and held him all night. I was convinced he would die in my arms from shock or internal injuries (I watch ER and Grey's Anatomy!).

To my wonderful surprise the next morning, he was still with me, ok, so he had wee ed eveywhere and pooed himself but i didn't care, my kitty was alive!!!

He had two plaster casts, very funky ones with his name written on them, and a few injections, then a tooth removed.

Today, weeks later, he is on super form, running around like a maniac and biting holes in my hands!

So, he proved to me that he wants to stay with me and he's earned his passage to France (very expensive but when a cat falls 6 floors................. Yes, my flat is on the 6th floor)and survives, I think it's a sign!

So, soon to be Welcome to France Mowgli!!!!!!

Awww, so glad you had a happy ending! I can't imagine how horrible you must have felt with him all bloody and scared. Well done for not freaking out too much!

Lucky. I have heard of cats who did not survive half that fall.

Hey, he's got 8 lives more.

Excellent. Superb news!

But I think he's also proved to you that he wants a garden.

So start looking for a new house!

The cat has spoken!

What a lucky cat! Sounds that you have a pretty good vet in Kanpur

And great you are taking him to France. You know that many airlines allow you to take the cat with you in the cabin as long as he is in a pet-carrier. This is a lot less expensive and more pleasant than keeping him in cargo.

By the way, it is cheaper to buy pet-carriers outside India. In Europe we bought some for Euro 15 while here they asked Euro 85! Most are foldable and very light so you can just put them in your suitcase.

With dogs you need to do a whole battery of tests if you take them to Europe, is that the same with cats?

thanks for the kitty kind words of support!

Yes, he definately has spoken, he WANTS a garden and so do I !!! Hence the move back to France where both of us will have, not only a garden, but acres and acres of vinyards to play in, mice to catch (i'm not so good at that part of course!) and forests to get lost in.

And yes, taking a cat to France is rather difficult regarding paperwork needed: Mowgli got his microchip injected in between his shoulder blades last week, so that he can be zapped like an article in a supermarket, checked his personal 'bar code' and correspond to his blood test results which will prove he is rabies free

Yes you can take cats in the cabin on flights, but only if the cat Plus his cage weigh 4 kilos or less. Otherwise they have to go underneath in a separate compartment in the plane which is given air and heating to keep a maximum of two animals happy.
From what I understand though, if the cat and cage go over 5 kilos it is included in surplus baggage which works out at about 35 euros per kilo !!!!!!!

Hoping i can find a suitable lightweight cage and kitty goes on a diet or is feeling "light" when I fly!

Sorry to hear about the other cat who didn't make it after hisfall though........

Oh, that was great, I Hope all is fine.
I got 2 cats in my neighbourhood, one called 'Kaajal' and the other "koel". both are lovely and naughty but my son loves them and although we don't feed or own them but he feels bad if he don't see them everyday.
