2 cats available (Bangalore)
Hi,
During our stay in Bangalore we adopted two kittens from a nearby laborer, we have had them since they were a month old. They are very well adapted to human presence and are quite fond of it. They are both males, and very much lap cats…quite quirky and affectionate. We hate to give them away, but we will soon be relocating back to the US. We would love another ex-pat family to adopt them. Sugar & Pepper, more affectionately known as Sugarchini and Pepperoni…are entirely housecats, and would certainly meet their demise if let outside if only for a few minutes at the hand of street dogs. We unfortunately went through this with a previous cat, and it was horrible. Furthermore, we would only want people that are willing to leave them inside. They are curious about the outdoors, and will occasionally look out the window, but they have never tried to run outside, and can be kept indoors with zero hassle. They have been vaccinated, and are due another booster before their rabies vaccine, which we will do before we hand them over to you. With the cats, comes their litter box, their vet records, shampoos, leashes, nail clippers, as well as any food, or litter that we have to get you started off. They are flea free, and we bathe them regularly. Well, we would prefer that someone take both, Only because we got them at the same time, they are siblings, and litter mates..we trained them to use their litter box together. They keep each other quite preoccupied during the day with all their play, and you can tell they feel quite lonely whenever the other isn't around. Meowing and carrying on until they find each other. I doubt they would be happy without having that constant companion that they are used to. If you have any questions you can call my Husband, Puneet, at #91-9341021742 Thanks Chrissy |

Hi Chrissy!
Why don't you take them with you? I know two persons, a Japanese and an American, who took their cats to their country when they left. It's not too difficult. You can take them into the cabin with you as long as they are under 5 Kilo. It won't be easy to a) find people who want cats since there are enough around, and b) find someone who is willing to have indoor only cats since that means having doors closed and windows fitted in a way that they can't get out. It's not very common in India to have indoor only cats (although I also have indoor only cats but as far as I'm aware am the only person around, so it seems!). Would be great if you could take them with you, otherwise I wish you and the little ones Good Luck! Try the vets and pet shops in your city too!

Thanks for the Info. We did think about taking them with us. But we heard from another source that taking pets to the US requires 30 days of quarantine, afterwards they would be shipped to us. We certainly didn't want to do that..As you know cats are anyways such fickle creatures, and easily adapt to the hand that is feeding them. We didnt know how their disposition would change after that, or if they would still be happy with us. Do you have any idea if there is any truth in that? We did contact the airlines here..but had only asked about domestic pet travel..thinking we would send them to Puneet's good friend that fell in love with them while he stayed with us here in Bangalore during a visit. Any idea of the costs? Many thanks.

My friend did not have to put her cats in quarantine when she returned to the US, she only needed a health certificate from a vet. She even had two birds to fly with her as well! She did a stop over in Switzerland where she relaxed with all of them for a day in a hotel before continuing to the US.
But that was a couple of years ago, maybe the rules have changed. You could ask the US embassy, they should be able to give you the current info. I would never put my animals in quarantine and can understand your thoughts. No, I don't have any idea of the costs. That would depend on the airline. If you fly with them, don't put them in the baggage hold, take them with you on board. Cats are too sensitive to fly in the baggage compartment. Also, don't give them tranquilisers, even if your vet recommends it. They have a different effect on each cat, it's not predictible at all, and while one cat might slumber peacefully, another one might only feel slightly drowsy, and because of that get even more scared cause she doesn't know what's going on and why she feels so weird. This happened to another friend of mine, her cat completely freaked out while on tranquilisers, so much so that her paws were totally bloody from trying to get out of the cage. So, don't do that. Take them into the cabin. That's the only way they would be able to cope with such a long trip. All the best! |

I do not believe that dogs and cats are quarantined coming into the US. and I've known many people who've traveled with their cats in a carrier under their seats. sometimes my husband flies first class for business and he has seen plenty of FIRST CLASS CATS!
I would NEVER put dog or cat in the baggage hold!

Chrissy, in case you come here again: I just found the Lufthansa regulations for taking cats on board. Maybe you are interested:
