Wongdhen house
Hi, I'm staying at Wongdhen House in the tibetan Area of Dehli.
Can someone tell me please if this is in Old Dehli, and if it is far from the centre of the city. Your answers are greatly appreciated. Thanx in Advance.

It's not in Old Delhi - it's quite a way out.
We got them to organise a pickup for us from the airport, and to get into town (including Old Delhi) we took a cycle rickshaw to the nearest metro and then got the metro in. The cyclos are all over the place and only cost Rs 20, and the metro is really cheap and efficient. |

Thanks mate. They told me in was in Old Dehli. Oh well. The Airport pick up sounds like the go.
And I like the Metro. Cheers. |

My post #7 in this thread has an interactive map showing the location:
Wongdhen House or Potala House in Majnuka Tila?

Thanks Dzibead.
I was a bit worried coz it's so cheap. Only 350 rupees per night. But it looks fine. Cheers. ![]() |

I stayed at the Wongdhen House as well as the Peace House. They both are very similar in quality and design. I loved both, but I'm biased with the Wongdhen House, simply because I stayed there for more time than at the Peace House. For sure, they are quite clean, very professionally maintained, and the food is good downstairs. I ate some authentic 'luwa' which is fried lungs of goat/sheep. It was...um...full of protein, I'm sure. But it wasn't bad, and I didn't gag.
If you plan to stay there, BOOK IN ADVANCE AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. I had to re-book every day, and this screwed up my plans a bit. Hmmm...definitely walk around that area, and analyze everything. There's a small budhist temple there. Do a lot of people watching. I wish, however, that I could have hung out with people more there - like go to coffee shops or enjoy a beer with the natives there. They were very nice, stylish, and big-hearted. But I didn't know where they hung out. Finally, if I could go back in time, I would have asked someone where do I wash my clothes, and where do I buy a plug-outlet that would allow me to charge up my cell phone while in India (this device costs Rs.15, and I found out about it accidentally). Delhi rocks. India rocks. India Mike rocks. Who started this site? |

Thanx for the great post. And thank you Vistet for the pictures. I've already booked for the week I'm there, and getting an airport pick-up. Does anyone have any pictures inside Wongdhen House??? |

Great to hear back from you Boston Harry.
I have met quite a few expat Indians who grew up overseas and have been regaled with tales of the horrors and dangers of India by their family and Indian friends. I am not suprised that you were worried about the trip and am so happy that you have had a fantastic time. |
