At 6am, there will be not much difference in time between Nizamuddin and New Delhi... maybe 40/45 minutes or a little less.

Dunno what you mean by Delhi... there is an Old Delhi station, which is further by about 15/20 mins.

Thanks capt_mahajan.

I am just think- if I will land at 05:00 AM- will I be on time for the 06:50 shatabi train to Haridwar (plus buy the tickets at the cashier)?

Thank you for quick help.

Even if the flight lands at on time, you are cutting it very fine. It can take awhile to get out of the airport. Sometimes more than an hour.

Buying tickets at the station can take sometime, too.

Everything will have to go very smoothly for you to make it.

If doing this, do have a fall back plan, would be my advice.

I would be very surprised iy you were to make this connection Niro. Planes invariably land late, immigration can be very slow and then you will need to negotiate a taxi and get to the train station...Personally i would normally allow several hours (at least) for this and that's without the joys of buying a ticket at the station

Oh well, you never know...miracles do happen

Do let us know how it goes.

Some points-You've got to be specific about the railway station you require. The Shatabdi for Haridwar leaves from New Delhi and stops at no other station in Delhi.
If you are arriving on a Thursday or Friday you may try for the 4309 Ujjaini Express- this stops at both Hazrat Nizamuddin and New Delhi but not Old Delhi.

Also note that there is no guarantee that there will be tickets available on the day of travel .
Many trains have at least one unreserved carriage in 2nd class which you can squeeze into in an emergency (you can ask the Ticket Inspector if there's a seat available in the reserved carriage to avoid the crush) but these do not run on the prestige Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains.

As others have said, you'd be cutting it very fine. But it is possible - I've managed to be at New Delhi station within 90 minutes of touching down on two or three occasions.

What I normally do is buy a ticket for the train I hope to catch - online, to save time at the station - and also a ticket for another train a few hours later in case of problems. You end up with an unused ticket, but they're so inexpensive that it really makes no difference.

Thanks guys.

But can I buy an online ticket via the internet outside of India?
How it can be done?

These days because of flyover constructions often there is traffic congestion near the airport. So I wouldn't choose the Shatabdi Exp. even if I had a ticket.
Regarding buying rail tickets online all details and guidelines have been posted, please read them & I am sure you will have all your rail travel questions answered.
Good luck.

Here's what I wud do -
As long as u are in a cab by 6.15 am (and I mean in and moving), go for it. With a little luck, u might make it - just don't let the cabbie drive so fast that u might get killed. It's upto u whether u buy the ticket on-line or not - I don't recommend to people to forget refunds, but it's your decision. Even if u don't, with a little luck (the train might be late!) u shud be able to manage. The ticket can be had in five mins if lucky, just keep the exact amount or near-abouts ready if poss. Also keep the reservation form ready. Fares and form d/l can be found at http://indianrail.gov.in/
The platform (no. 12) is the first one next to the ticket counter. U'll have to walk about 150-200 m as the train is parked towards the front end of the platform. Just make sure the cabbie takes u to the AJMERI GATE side of New Delhi RS!
It wud be ideal if u are travelling with luggage which u can carry yourself so that u don't have to bother with porters. If it's very close to departure time, just jump into the first coach, they are all inter-connected.
NOTE: There are two trains lined up at the same platform departing within mins of each other (DEHRADUN Shatabdi and AMRITSAR Shatabdi), just make sure u do NOT get into the wrong one!
If u do not make this train, then the only ones worth waiting for are the 4317 Indore Dehradun Express (Sun and Mon) dep 11.50 arr 16.47, and the 2055 Dehradun Janshatabdi (except Sun) dep 15.25 arr 19.25.

Old Delhi is officially known as Delhi RS, even Delhi Main sometimes.
