Hotel Delhi City Centre
Have any of you heard of Hotel Delhi City Centre? It is located on 8633-45 Arakashn Road. It seems to have good reviews, but I wanted to see if anyone had personal experience with it on here. My husband and I are traveling for the first time to India next month and need a bit of guidance for a hotel booking!
Also, we will be traveling at the end of Ramadan, during Eid ur fitr - does anyone know if this causes the tourist places to be closed? or if it causes any other issues with traveling during this time frame? Thanks ![]() |

Evening again all.
just trying to tie up a few loose ends before booking hotels in Delhi. we arrive in Delhi from South africa on the 18th Oct at 3am and want to book somewhere cheap and secure(for 1night) to leave our backpacks in the room and shower before taking in the life of the city. any ideas of good recommendations? we leave Delhi later that night on the overnight train to Haldwani. so not actually sleeping more to just refresh ourselves. coming back to Delhi on the 3rd Nov for 3 nights and looking for a couple of nights stay, has anyone been to or know anything about these hotels or any better suggestions?? either Hotel Shree Ram Deluxe(sounds good and great prices) smyle inn or Ridge View Guest House, i know this is a lot but some friendly advise and help would be great. |

On the day of Eid ur Fitr, it's possible that many shops owned by Muslims will be closed, but not those owned by Hindus, Jews or Christians. Where will you be? Some cities appear (to this foreigner, anyway) to have a large Muslim population, so that would affect openings for Eid. Plan to spend the day at temples, rather than mosques and you should be fine.

If not, this site's Hotel Listings should have something for you, where the same pretty much applies (and always take note of posting dates). Picking a hotel from a guidebook or from here or wherever* won't essentially tell you much more about where you'll end up. * Or just rocking up there, for that matter. You say you mostly just want to stash your gear and freshen up; as any guidebook should be able to tell you, if you go to New Delhi Railway Station, the area right outside it (and that this thread is all about) known as Paharganj, and dominated by its main street of Main Bazaar, will have no end of places to suit just that purpose. Again, if you want specific recommendations in that area, you only need to read back on this thread or similar ones. It's hardly an area where you will not find a bed. You could use your initial time there to look for a place you like for your return visit.

Cottages Yes Please
I've found all the information here useful and interesting but a friend mentioned Yes Please to me, but see almost no mention of it in all these threads. The website looks great and tho perhaps a bit above average price, I don't think 900 is so bad for a first timer to delhi on her own. Any opinions?

Yes, I've seen there website - Cottage Yes Please - but wondered if there are any opinions or experiences there. The name itself makes me want to go there! And I'm prepared to splash out on my first night (ever) in delhi!

Find it hard to say, and I don't know the place. (What I meant btw is I'm pretty sure it has been regularly discussed on this site -- but you'd need to use this site's search engine, and to use the right keywords, to find it back. So for instance "cottages yes please" as you initially spelled it won't get you there, as it's called Cottage Yes. Looking for Yes Please would spring to mind -- but would likely lead to many unrelated results.)
Like you say though (and their site does make it look nice -- but they just may have spruced up some pics of it of course) it may well be worth having a place you feel comfortable with as your entrance point. Rs. 900 would seem a little steep to me for a budget place in Delhi; then again those pics make it look a little more than budget-plus, and that room rate certainly isn't way over the top. Not with the other amenities they promise either. Going up to mid-end, you could be paying a lot more. So all in all, I think you could hardly be making a dire mistake here no; if it disappoints you, that'll be another thing learnt, right. Even hardcore budget travelers would do well to realize they may be paying a multiple of what they had in mind for those first few days anyway; if simply because you'll have landed in a big city, and it will take you some time to get an idea of reasonable prices, and so on. And it may indeed pay sometimes to not worry about it so much, and to just allow yourself a little extra luxury just to make things easier on yourself, and for what would likely still be peanuts at home. There's a time to worry about every other Paisa or not, and then there isn't, kind of thing. Last edited by machadinha : Sep 12th, 2009 at 03:43. |

In Paharganj you will find a lot low budget hotels (from 150 to 250 Rs per night and per room). You don´t necessarly need an reservation. It depends if the hotel is mentioned in major travel guides. Before checking in you can have a look at the room, so you know if it´s clean. Some are cheap and very nice and some are cheap, but not clean...

You may go to Arakashan Road for a budget AC room, although it's adjacent to the paharganj but here hotels are better than Paharganj Main market.
You may try Arya Lodge. They have good rooms on 4th Floor, Rs. 800 for decent sized AC room with nice clean barhroom. You may take the Delhi Darshan Bus from Scindia house in Connaught Place. It's close to Paharganj/Arakashan road.
