Hm, yes, and to each their own. Keep in mind though that an average of 25 pounds (1800 Rs.) may sound cheap in Europe, it isn't in India!
(Finding something nice for that rate shouldn't be a surprise, but expected rather. And, to stick to this thread's theme, for that money I don't think I'd hang out in Paharganj.)

What do you mean by a family room ? A 3 or 4 bedded room or what ? That's a good amount and you should get decent accommodation for that price.

Stayed at Hotel Alka a few years a ago and they've quoted us Rs5300 plus tax per night and no airport pick up for 4 nights in the first week of August which I feel is too expensive. |

Have you checked out Hotel Ginger ? Here you can get a decent room for Rs. 1200 only. So it's Rs. 2400 for two rooms.

I sent an email to ginger who said that they are yet to finalise prices for August. Looks like a real good place and the reviews ive read on Trip Advisor are very positive - Ive asked them to pre book a room for us. While Im here whats the going rate for a car and driver per day these days in Delhi? and wheres the best place to go. Thanks |

This bit of the thread has become a bit of a two way conversation lol. Weve done the siteseeing stuff before and need to get around to visit relatives in the Vishu Gardens / Meera Bagh area of Delhi and one or two from Mangolpuri. Have been thinking radios cabs might be an cheaper option or even use the metro. Thanks |

That said, and even with a/c and wifi, i'm really not sure that paharganj is the place for a protracted work stay. I think there was a thread a short while back from a guy who was trying to work whilst staying in a hotel on paharhanj and in the end he moved to a quieter district and was all the happier for it. Maybe someone else can find that thread easily? K |

The hotel is nothing like the pictures, they must be 10 years old. The hotel is funtional, needs a good clean, door locks very hard to lock. Unless your used to not so good accomodation and awkward staff stay well clear.
