Lightbulb where to spend relaxing day in dehli waiting for night train to bikaner?

we will have spent 18 or more hours travelling to delhi in november from scotland, arriving 1.15 in the morning. our train to bikaner only leaves in the evening.
where is it relaxing ( we probably will be tired ), safe, cool in delhi ? or are we asking the impossible ? is a hotel-room the only option to wait the day out ? if yes, is there a nice hotel near the sarai rohilla railway station ?

Dilli Haat in South Delhi is a nice place to hang-out. It's an outdoor shopping area with lots of traditional items for sale. There are nice cafes/restaurants, often some music or dancing taking place and it's very relaxed. You pay a small fee to get in (20R or so) so it keeps out the beggars and con-artists. Unlike most Indian shopping experiences it is really hassle free and nice to just wander around and have a look. Plenty of places to sit and have a drink etc. It would be easy to kill several hours there!

Which day are you arriving as there's an 08.45 train to Bikener on Wednesdays Fridays and Sundays!!

Failing that, get a hotel room it doesn't cost a lot and after 18 hours a shower and 40 winks will be just what you need!!

Why not use the Rail Yari Niwas retiring rooms very cheap and close to New Delhi Railway station. You can book these for 12 hours at against a lower tariff.

For instance a double bedroom with shared toilet it 310 rupees for 12 hours!!
They also have dormitory type accomodation for 95 rupees for 12 hours.
Price includes VAT, newspaper and breakfast!

See here

There are also any number of hotels in the area of New Delhi Station where you can get a cheap room!!

If you really just want to hang about until then wait until morning at the Airport then head for Old Delhi Station where the Consume Restaurant opens early and is air conditioned, so you can get some breakfast and dump your bags if you sa wish.

Other places are Saravan Bhavan (AC south Indian restaurant)on Janpath, Cottage Emporium Industries four floors of crafts in a cool atmosphere, Palika Underground market, a walk around the covered Connaught Circle!!

Near the airport the breakfast buffet at the Radisson is pretty cheap!!
