Hi,
I'm going to be in Delhi on the 17th October for a day with my wife and her friend. They would like to buy salwar kurtas or pathani salwar kurtas for wearing during the rest of our trip to Rajastan (2 weeks). We are staying at the Swati Hotel in Karol Bagh for the 2 nights and I wonder if anyone can suggest a good quality shop either in Karol Bagh or Connaught Place where we can buy these items (cotton preferred) and approx how much we should pay for them. Thanks Alan |

I believe Oct 17 is Diwali and shops will be closed....someone from Delhi can give you the best answer on this one.

People recomment Sarojini Naidu market for this.
Karol bagh is ok. Bargain HARD... sorry HARDER... sorry HARDEST! Connaught place - i think you should avoid. Cost depends on quality, design, etc. But in few hundreds, unless you go for exclusive ones costing few thousands. |

On Diwali Day, most of the Marwaris keep the shop open, but may not be all day... Good Point SitaParityaga

Suggest FabIndia -- they have a shop in CP, though the one in N Block Market in GK 1 has the best selection. Unsure about Diwali hours.
Not the sort of place where you bargain, but lots of men's and women's stuff in one place... http://www.fabindia.com/storesfrontd...14:New%20Delhi

Lajpat Nagar and Sarojini Nagar Markets are both great for clothes.

The good news! I've checked again and we arrive on the evening of the 17th (Saturday) at 10.30 so hopefully we will see the tail end of the Diwali celebrations...?
Our full day is the Sunday (18th) so we should still get into the shops...more suggestions welcome!!!! And thanks for all the posts so far. Cheers Alan |
