shop salwar kammez from standard shops in delhi unless you know the stuff really well.
tourist shops in jaipur are either cheap "fall apart with the first wear" kind or good quality but at ridiculously expensive prices. Unless you know the stuff well donot buy SK from jaipur. You will have difficulty in getting a good article at a good price in the touristy areas. better shop from standard places in delhi..... thats what locals do..... or go to the complex in Baba kharak singh marg (near conought place)... its has lots of state handloom and handicraft emporiums. You will get kurtas (very nice upper class) there at OK prices. A cotton handloom kurta will cost around 350 to 600 there. No bargaining. |

And in Mysore ?
Dear Friends,
Any suggestions in Mysore please ? I would like to get a nice SK (not a Sharukh Khan, a salwar kameez) in Mysore but only have a few days. Can you suggest any place for a ready-made SK, or at least a nice kurta ? It doesn't have to be silk, a nice mid-range cotton item would be fine. Alternately, how long would it take a tailor to fashion one, do you think ? Thank you ! ![]() |

do your shopping in Delhi - dont wait for Rajasthan, we were disappointed at the quality of the stuff we saw there. Shopping is one thing that Delhi is good for. As noted, sources of Salwar Kameez are everywhere, but Fabindia (espectially at GK-1)will have what you need, dressy or less so, in many different types of fabric to suit your taste and you can try them on. Cottage Industries Emporium was not nearly as good. Dilli Haat is really good for textiles, shawls, scarves, dupattas, etc.

Mani : Thank you sooo much ! I read a lot of good things about Fabindia. Will go there first. Thanks again.
Kristinm : please help yourself ! Met the man for about 17 seconds and must say he's much nicer in real life than I expected, and the ultimate pro in interviews. But I'm more of an Aamir Khan fan, so I'm willing to share ![]() |

the other option
Fabindia should definitely not be missed out , while they have mutliple branches all over Delhi now the ones in N block market are still the best.
The other place to check out is Santushti , near the PM's residence. Disclaimer : i am not a woman.

Kristin, do forgive me if I don't check your video link straightaway - I'm leaving in under 24 hrs (plane to Mumbai) and have a really ridiculous schedule up to then. But I will do, hopefully in Mysore, plenty of time then. Thanks much for posting the link. Take care !

desert - there are tons and tons of options available for you - Fab India is an outlet which is recommended highly throughout the site and something i would definitely urge you to check out as well.
Most malls would carry shops which have this clothing as well - Westside , Ansal Plaza, and each and every market you visit would have ample shops catering to that clothing. Regarding jewellery i cant help out , i guess Janpath would be an option. |

Thank you for the most valuable advise. I am planning to start a business at Kerala for exclusive north Indian dress like Salwar, Khamees, tops etc. My estimated monthly purchase at the first year will be 100,000 Rs.
Thanks friends |
