Question Where is the best place for a mixed race couple to live in or around Delhi?

I am a white American who will be moving to Delhi to marry my Nepali fiancee. He already lives in Uttam Nagar, but once I arrive we plan to relocate. What is a good, upscale area that is safe for a white woman to settle in? We are considering Noida, but I would like input from locals on other options as well. We are looking to spend between rs 12,000 and 15,000 per month. I hope to find an apartment for rent in a clean, cosmopolitan neighborhood, where the people around us will be accepting of a mixed race couple and young blond foreigner like me!

(I am not particularly looking for advice on how rough intercultural marriage is, or how my fiancees parents will disapprove of me. His mother and I are already close and she will be helping us relocate, his sister and I are friends, and I have done volunteer work in his father's school. I am also studying Hindi and am interested in Indian society and at least somewhat aware of the culture shock I will no doubt be in for! I am just looking for perspective, preferably from a local, that will ease my rather odd situation! I truly appreciate genuine advice. Thank you!)

I realized I need to include more information! My fiancee is Nepali by ethnicity, but he is an Indian citizen from the Darjeeling District of West Bengal. He was born and raised in India, and has always been Indian by nationality. Hope that helps!

Thanks for asking good questions. I have left out too many details! My fiancee works out of Indira Gandhi International Airport, and I will most likely be attending a school of journalism somewhere around the Indian Institute of Technology or south of Sanjay Van, or in Noida.

Also, are there any areas I should especially avoid as a white woman?

Err, where you stay can depend largely on where both/either will work. Any pointers there?

If your school is near IIT, then Vasant Kunj would be a good choice as both IIT and the airport are relatively close by...and the crowd is decent. Current per month rent for a two bedroom third floor flat is around Rs. 14,000.

Oops.

Yep, Vasant Kunj is one option.

Noida is very far.

In case you need to go to Noida for your studies and your fiancee to IGI life will be very difficult with the prevailing traffic situation. In that case New Friends colony would be a better location.

We are a mixed race couple, living in Noida and I've seen other mixed race couples here too including a blonde and a red head. Safety wise your fine anywhere in India as long as you don't call attention to yourself and provoke people (read loud behaviour and skimpy clothes).

If one of you is in Noida and the other at IGI then something halfway like Greater Kailash 1 & 2 , South Extension, Hauz Khas , Defence Colony etc might do well.

From these locations Noida would be 20 mins away through the toll and IGI 25-30 mins in the morning the other side.
