Where can I buy egg whites in Delhi/Gurgaon?

I like to keep myself on a strict diet and while I will occasionally eat some delicious Indian food, most of the time I'd like to try and stick to my normal eating routine, of which egg whites are a big part, and buying and separating whole eggs is a.) tedious and b.) a waste of the yolks.

Any suggestions?

I do not think egg whites are sold here separately. You may have to undertake the tedious job yourself.

White of egg is an excellent substratum for Salmonella. I wouldn't even buy pre-separated white of egg in a temperate climate. If you have a good egg separator this doesn't need to be a tedious job. Just make sure you are using fresh eggs: then the membrane surrounding the yolk doesn't puncture so easily. And as for waste - do you have a pet? Cats, dogs, parakeets - they all love egg yolk!

I don't know where to get egg whites only. A few years ago I met a fellow traveller in India who would also eat ten egg whites per day. He would buy boiled eggs from the market and then just peel them and eat the whites. Can't remember what he did with the yolks. Strange diet... with 10 egg whites per day.

Yes, use a egg yolk separator. Don't discard the yolk; scramble it in a pan with little oil and feed it to the birds. They will be happy.

Second what all the others say: separate them yourself. While you can keep separated egg whites in a jar (provided that not a single spot of yolk gets in) and refrigerated to 2 degrees for one week easily, I'd never risk purchasing them here, just too dangerous.

Good point. Contact with the outside of the shells would be very unhygienic.

Despite being a gadgetphile shopoholic, I have never seen the need for egg separating gadgets. They have one built in: the shell!

Utterly unnecessary kitchen gadgets: egg separators and everything to do with garlic except a simple press.

I never knew (until this thread ofcourse) that there is a gadget to separate egg whites from yolks.

There are several. Actually, I was foxed by one only a couple of weeks ago, while gadget gazing in Singapore. I had to check the label to find out what it was!

Me too! How many seconds does it take to separate the yolk from white, generally? not more than 5-10 seconds i guess? there is a gadget for that?

SGMD1: I'm curious now - do you eat the egg whites raw or cooked? If raw, do you just 'drink' them or do you mix them with anything?

And may I ask you what kind of diet this is, I mean what do you want to achieve?
