What to see in Delhi for a day
Hi,
I am bringing my English husband to India next month. We will only be in Delhi for one day and one night. I asked my husband what he wanted to see and instead of the normal, India Gate monuments etc he said he wants to people watch, see the hussle and bussle of the city. Can anyone recommend the best place for this. I am thinking that Chandni Chowk might be a good place although I don't know much about it Any other ideas? What is a must to see if coming to Delhi for a day? What about good places to eat and a good hotel to stay. We are flying back to England the next morning, so a hotel close to the airport would be best. ![]() |

Spend half a day at Delhi Jn. railway station and the balance at Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli and Connaught Place.

Humayuns Tomb is well worth a visit. Like the Taj Mahal it is very grand (from a distant). It might be a bit too quiet for your husband.
Lotus Temple is also worth seeing, you sometimes get a rush of people queuing up to get inside. Chandni Chownk is good for people watching. Plenty of hotels. Depends on your budget. If you have 7/8K Rs go for the Radisson. It is close to the airport. If your budget is a bit lower then there are lots of cheap hotels on National Highway 8. All of these are close to the airport. If you head towards the Radisson from these cheap hotels you come to a set of traffic lights, turn left and head on down that road in the late afternoon/early evening if you fancy being in a crowded place. |

He sounds like me, I get bored silly of temples and forts, much rather see real life.
Janpath Street and the Tibetan Market is ace, Pahar Ganj Main Bazarr (look out for bombs) and Dilli Haat. All market places but so much hustle and bustle. Hire a car and driver and just point to streets for him to turn down for the hell of it, getting lost is the best adventure. I did find the Gandhi Museum really interesting though! Cheers Malc |

I know it is a temple (though pretty much a brand new one) but some friends here have recommended Akshardham Mandir. (See www.akshardham.com )
Apparently over 45,000 people pass through daily on average... Maybe will give a different perspective on crowds??? Have a great trip! |

Listen to Shimla if your husband wants to experience the sounds smells and people that's where I would recommend you go, the station is a great idea, Chanda chowk is my favorite area of all for people and sights my best India photographs have come from there especially the overhead wiring
