What to do in Delhi with a 3y.o.?

Hello everybody!
In about 1 month we are going to India and will have a 3-day stopover in Delhi upon arrival (where I've never been before). I already have a rough idea of what to do with my son there but no definite palns as yet.
My son will be a little over 3 years old by that time and to give you an idea of what kind of activities I am looking for I can tell that he likes to stay outdoors for 6 to 9 hours a day (wheather permitting), can easily walk up to 10 km per day, is keen on running, climbing, and almost any other kind of physical exeicises.
On the quiet side he likes cats nnd fishes(along with all kinds of sealife).
Now, what I mostly will be looking for are parks (of which I've heard about Lodi Gardens only), some kind of playgrounds (if any), swimming pools in hotels accessible for non-residents (for Rs300 or under) and it would be great if we could combine it with at least some sightseeing.
Any suggestions? Will appreciate any information.

There is an outdoor train museum at Chanakiapuri, popular with toddlers. The park where the Ghandi memorial is at is also very nice and is well taken care of. I know that you can use most of the swimming pools in most hotels but do not know how much they charge. The Craft museum has an outdoor area that has buildings from different areas of India and children can run around. There is an inside play area at Ansel Plaza and McDonalds is also there, another popular spot with the little ones. People in India are very friendly with children. On some occasions way to friendly and this bothers the kids. More than once I’ve had to stop strangers from grabbing my son’s cheeks and kissing him.

Dear lez, I already saw similar announcement in Camden (London) that ended with something more humorous(by your standards). It ran:
Chlidren left unattended will be sold as slaves.

Marte- thanks a lot for your help!! And , oh yes, I have an idea how friendly Indians can get with kids - it's gonna be my second trip to India with my son!

Another nice place is "Bal Bhawan" near ITO - has some nice lawns, playarea with swings etc, tree houses, and a toy train that runs around the place.
U could combine it with a visit to the nearby Shankar Dolls musium - though i am not sure your 'son' would appreciate it as much you are likely to.

Definitely go to the Railway Museum. I think some days they offer rides on a small train. And just do some walking around the city, that will tire 'em out too.

I heard Apu Ghar was closed? They dismantled it and some of the rides are being reconstructed at the new theme park in Noida (which has not opened yet). The company which ran Apu Ghar is a partner in the new Noida theme park.

My two and half year old loved just hanging out and playing at Lodi gardens.

Isn't there a zoo in Delhi? Have not been there so don't know how good it is. Maybe omeone can remark on this.

I was there almost 13 years ago. The zoo is pretty good, for a 3rd world zoo. It is worth visiting. When I was there some of the locals were throwing rocks at a bear, and other locals were taunting the animals by sitting on the railings around the enclosures or even hanging over the railings. The line to get tickets was brutal--lots of shoving and general dumb behavior for what was probably a 2 rupee entrance fee.

Apart from that the most memorable things about that zoo were cold 5 rupee bottled Pepsi and kids getting elephant rides.

They must be looking like sweet apples

I once bit my nephew's cheeks when he was 2 years old. Not hard...just a little snap...so cuuute they were. But it made him bawl loudly. His dad still hounds me for that.
