Question Weekend trips from New Delhi

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be staying in Delhi in December this year and have a couple of weekends where I'm going to be free to make trips to other towns and cities. I have a few weeks in January to travel further afield but the more I look into places to go the longer my list of must-dos becomes!

Would Amritsar be too far to attempt in a weekend? Or are there other places nearer that would be a good break from the rush of Delhi?

Indiamike has been a wealth of information so far, and now I'm starting to plan my own trip a bit more I would really appreciate any advice!!

EDIT: Just to specify, I'm planning on traveling by train or bus, and as I'm going in December I am okay to pass on anything that's going to be freezing cold - I will save that for another trip when I can visit in warmer months! Thanks again

Hi annietea

Regarding Amritsar

it depends on the time u wanna spend in Amritsar .For a short trip. i would recommend a two days time. u can take the swarn shatabdi(train) on saturday morning from new delhi and return back on sunday evening on the same train.U can then include seeing wagah border on saturday evening and also visit Gurudwara Golden temple sahib late in the evening . On sunday u have time till 5.00 pm in the evening which u can spend visiting the gurudwara(again , to see it in the day time , as it is worth it) ,few places like jallianwala bagh and some good places to have luunch in amritsar. The train i have mentioned takes abot 6 hrs one side and provides breakfast/dinner on the way. This is the best 2 day trip i ve made numerous of times .

Well Amritsar is going to be very very cold in December....

But then all other Weekend trip places will also be cold....

You may think Agra, Jaipur, Haridwar/Rishikesh, Corbett National Park also......

Thanks rash111 that's really helpful. I've looked up the train you suggested and I think a weekend trip would work quite well, although I may have to invest in some more layers of clothing!

Weekend Trip from Delhi

Ya,,

I also think Delhiwala is right, It will be to cold in Amritsar at that time, may be you can do a Day Trip to Jaipur or Agra.

Other options are Haridwar/Rishikesh, Corbett National Park and Mathura. Happy Journey.

Or...you can try Jaipur.
If you havent seen Agra (I'm taking a wild guess that already have)...its a good option.
Then there's Mussoorie...

I have already arranged a trip to Agra and I'm planning on having 3.5 weeks of travel after Delhi where I hope to go to Jaipur. I'll check out the other suggestions, it seems general consensus that Amritsar will just be too cold, maybe I'll save it for another trip! Thanks for all the advice
