Weekend trips from Delhi
Hello, I will be working in Delhi in December and looking for short weekend trips outside of Delhi. I've been to Delhi several times, toured Agra and Jaipur. Now I would like to explore more of India, but am restircted by my work to weekends. I have 3 days each weekend to to travel.
I am looking for any suggestions. Currently I am considering Corbett, Himachal (I don't mind if it is cold), maybe somewhere in Raj. other than Jaipur. Unless I can hookup with a travel partner I'll be traveling solo. Any ideas? TIA |

Hi
how about Ajmer and Pushkar in Rajasthan , and if you have the facility of a car/driver the Shekawati area also in Raj.... If money is not a major issue try the Neemrana Group's various locations of Havelis ( old houses) which have been renovated . They are located in various areas such as Rishikesh , one nr Nanital ,couple just outside Delhi etc. Their offices used to be in Nizamuddin East. chagu |

Besides places in Rajasthan, HImachal & Uttaranchal you can even go to Amritsar and return back in a weekend.
Add Haridwar/Rishikesh (in Uttaranchal) to see the religious/spiritual side of India once. You can even squeeze in Dharamshala(in Himachal) 14hrs overnight journey from Delhi, will be great in December with fully snow clad Dauladhar range & see some Budhist/Tibetan culture or go to Narkanda near Shimla as suggested by crimson or Manali & Solang for some winter sports. |

Thanks for all the quick answers!
Now, what is the best way to get to each of these recommended places? I'll be traveling solo unless I can find a travel partner so hiring a car/driver may be too expensive for me.

All these places are well connected by public transport.. Regular buses (both private and state transport) ply on the above routes..

Ajmer/Pushkar take the train from Delhi to Ajmer via Jaipur , take a taxi to Pushkar , if you can afford it stay at the Pushkar palace. train leaves Delhi early morning gets there around lunch time .....return...leaves afternoon gets in to Delhi abt 10/11 pm Shekawati - you will need a car I am afraid. Neemrana own a haveli here , have a chat with them as they will be able to help you arrange and the same with their other havelis which require a car/driver. Glass house on the ganges is just after Rishikesh...take train to Haridwar and then a taxi. Rambagh bungalows nr Nanital .. do not know the station name but there is a train and then taxi.... hope this helps,if you need any more info pls ask. chagu |

I second Amritsar!!
Don't forget to check the budget airline schedules. Deccan Air now flies Delhi-Amritsar, for example. |

You can take the train from Delhi to the Shekawati region, I think. We took a train from Delhi at around 11pm and arrived in Nawalgarh at 6am the next morning. Loved the area ..it would make a great contrast to the bustle of Delhi for the weekend. Mandawa was a good place to stay.
