Weekend break from Delhi?

Hello,

Can somebody suggest a destination for a 1 night excursion from Delhi (3-4 hours driving distance)? I plan to leave on a Saturday morning and be back in Delhi by Sunday evening.

I have been to Agra, Jaipur & Bharatpur and already have Dehradun, Chilla, Mussoorie, Haridwar and Rishikesh on an itinerary of 7 days which follows thereafter.

"Offbeat" locations are also welcome!

Thanks,
FOI

Amritsar.

Excellent transport links, the awesome Golden Temple, also the Hindu version of the Golden Temple, and the border ceremony.

But Amritsar can be tough for a smoker.

Don't quite understand your itinerary. Why would you want to do a 2 day sortie if you're heading out of Delhi anyway on Monday? Anywhere you go would take you in the direction of any of these places mentioned (unless you'd rather go to Punjab or HP - but then we're not talking about a 3-4 hrs' drive).
Also, looking at your list: Haridwar, Dehra Dun and Mussoorie.....none of these would be worth seeing if you have Rishikesh and Chilla on your list already. Suggest you have a relook at where you're planning to head out.
In case you're ok with taking an overnight train, the Golden Temple Mail to Amritsar is an optio

Hi Ron,

My itinerary is like this:

Arrive in Delhi on Saturday morning from Mumbai.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday in Delhi.

Monday evening I am joined by a friend coming from B'lore with his family. (He cant join earlier due to other commitments).

Monday night we take a train to Dehradun.

We camp at Dehradun on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. During this period - with Dehradun as the Base camp - we do 'day trips' to Mussoorie, Haridwar, Rishikesh etc.

On Friday morning we head out of Dehradun to Chilla. Spend the night staying at Chilla. This serves as our base for the Rajaji National park.

On Saturday evening return to Dehradun and board the night train to Delhi. Arrive at Delhi on Sunday Morning and board flight to Mumbai.

Hence - having said this - I have the first 3 days at Delhi - before i proceed to DDun. Was just thinking of heading out of Delhi for 2 out of these 3 days!

Spend a leisurely afternoon at Dilli Haat, a quiet walk in the Lodhi gardens there after, the railway museum is another place not to be missed..... and of course wandering around the lanes and bylanes of Chandni Chowk and old Delhi strewn with bits of history.

You can go to Qutub Minar (Mehrauli area which has ruins of Khilji-Tughlaq dynasty grandeur). From Connaught place you can board Metro train and pay a visit to majestic Akshardham temple, thats the biggest Hindu temple in the world on River Yamuna banks.

A walk around COnnaught Place, the circular, beautiful market built by the British, visit to lovely India Gate area are other attractions. Any visit to a major market of Delhi has it's own attractions btw.
