Watch Buying in Delhi

A friend of mine has asked me where he could buy a watch in Delhi, around CP area, or not far from there. He wants a good, long lasting type of watch, analogue type (I think that means normal looking not digital?) and he is prepared to pay up to 7000 rupees for it. Any suggestions as to where he might look?

For 7000 bucks he can get a decent Titan or Timex; both of which make good, long-lasting watches.
There are 4-5 Titan/Timex show-rooms in CP, he can buy from any one of those.

There are a couple of watch shops in CP as I recall, not difficult to find. My geography isn't great but turn right out of Pizza Hut and there's one on the next block over I think. How vague is that?

I shall redeem myself with a Google:

Amarson Watch Company (C-10)
Bari Watchmakers (D-29)
Johnson Watch Company (C-16 and L-21)http://www.johnsonwatch.com/ (More a designer type place it seems)

Unfortunately Golemarket is more my price bracket- there's a nice little shop there I've been to a couple of times!

Dear Karuna,

I doubt whether any of these shops will have anything in 7000 range :-)

There are two Swatch dealers in CP. One is Gangoly brothers next to Rivoli cinema.

Johnson Watch Company does have a very nice showroom ..... go there to decide upon a style/manufacturer & get familiar with the lingo, bells & whistles available & upper scale current prices - in a relaxed atmosphere. Then scout around to the many watch distributors in the area for a more competitive price/model and/or something that will fit the budget as appropriately as possible.

At least that's what I would do if I were buying a carpet or similar handicraft .... go to a fine luxurious/spacious shop - relax, ask alot of questions, have some good tea, share a laugh, get a feel for the upper end prices, take a business card, and bid adieu .... now fully equipped with a degree in (fill in quest here)101 tucked firmly under your hat .... and very ready for some real hunting/bargaining!!!!

Here is a link that contains a list of some other watch shops in and around New Delhi.

Many thanks everyone for info which I will pass onto him - he's in Delhi late Jan. Karuna and ntomer - does this mean these watches from the shops listed will be well above 7,000 rupees?
Also I blush to admit but I don't think I know Gole market - could have been there without knowing the name mind you! Karuna - where is it located?
You have all been most helpful, thank you so much!

Aishah take the Panchkuya road from CP and go straight. You will see a round shoping place also serving as a road round about. This is Gole market.

Thanks jyotirmoy! Just checked this out on map and I do know road because I see it is going past Lady Hardinge Hospital. I'm not seeing Gole Market though, there are 2 circles, one at Harijan Basti and other near Jandewala Temple. Also I see Metro is going that way (stop before is Rama Krishna Ashram). Would he go by metro or taxi or walk?

I still can not figure out why one should go to Gole Market for buying a watch. Rs.7000/- is a lot of money for a watch. CP has so many shops that you will be spoilt for choice. I still recommend checking out the Swatch models.
Well if you must go to Gole Market the nearest metro station should be Jandewalan I think.
My sole reason for going to Gole Market is the excellent pork meat kababs from Galina

Well, that's the whole system, innit. Consider it an art form -- and the gratification is in the process, not necessarily in the result (although they'll ideally go together).

Rs.7000 is more than I have ever paid for a watch in UK.

There were some in this price range that tempted me on my recent visit --- and I was interested to see exactly the same make at more-or-less the same prices in a modern store in Hyderabad.

Many international quality makes are available for much less than this.

Nick that is exactly what I was trying to say, one can pick up a decent Swatch for this amount.
