Have you searched & reviewed the numerous threads about volunteering in India? It requires more research and preparation than one might think, particularly with respect to visas etc.

Well I think if you get in touch with AIESEC (the worlds largest student organization). They're pretty active in Delhi and its totally 100% voluntary, plus loads of fun. PM me for more details.
You can visit aiesec.net for more information. |

Well, my understanding of the AIESEC process (I did an AIESEC internship in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1982) is that setting it up is rather time-consuming and far from certain, though it may well have changed. Some web research on the NGOs or whatever groups the OP is considering would be a good place to start, as would visa research.

AIESEC already exists in Delhi. Infact, there is not one, but two local committees in Delhi, one being AIESEC - Delhi University and the second, AIESEC - Delhi IIT.
AIESEC Delhi is pretty up there in the AIESEC network...and AIESEC India is said to be one of the richest AIESEC committees. I was a member for a about two years in AIESEC Dubai, I was also Vice President of Talent Management. |

Well, the reason I asked was that at my US school (I was VP Sales for the local chapter), internships at the chapter were dependent on convincing local businesses to accept interns from other countries -- sell five internships, five chapter members got to go on internships. Those that sold internships were generally the ones that went on internships, hence my surprise that something could be arranged rapidly. That said, it was nearly 30 (!) years ago...

From my experience of AIESEC, AIESEC US never fared good among AIESECers. It just wasnt successful there. At every international conferences, where there were atleast 5 people from each country, AIESEC US had only 1-2. And based on numbers(money, internships, partners), they were amongst the lowest. I mean lower than Venezuela, Kenya etc.
AIESEC US never really was under full operation, and as of now, is close to non-existent. I know the AIESEC Delhi people, and their working is pretty fast. |
