Vasant Vihar/ Delhi ??

Hi...
We shall be staying at Vasant Vihar in Delhi, as I have understood it is an area. Can someone please tell me if it is central to things..like CT Place, shooping etc, good eating places...

Vasant Vihar is a very nice area in South Delhi. The Basant Lok complex within Vasant Vihar has many decent restaurants and bars including TGIF etc. One can shop there too and there is a multiplex cinema. Its one of the favourite hang outs for the young crowd. CP is about a 20 minute drive from there.

Hey! Unless there are two Vasant Vihars then it is in Gurgaon. Check this thread. IM people were very helpful to me.

Trapped in Gurgaon, sympathy required

I've been in Gurgaon for nearly two weeks.. the mall Vasant Vihar is O.K. but really you're gonna be a long way out of Delhi and even the train station in Gurgaon is quite a long way (about 8km taxi cost us R250). I don't really agree with 20 mins into town from Karan.. We took a train to Old Delhi the other day and it took nearly 1 and 1/2 hour (yes it was delayed but still).. about an hour to get back to station followed by long rickshaw ride back to hotel. A taxi takes up to an hour to Connaught Place and can be expensive. Best thing here was meeting an IM contact and hanging out. Otherwise it was getting into delhi.. but it's just too hot to do that too much. You can get to Agra and Jaipur pretty easy from here.. but then Agra (closer than Jaipur) takes at least 3 1/2 hours each way (with driver), some people it took longer.

Good luck. Are you coming because someone is working here? Hotels are full of business travellers. Why staying in Gurgaon? Best wishes, Heidi

There is infact only 1 Vasant Vihar and its in South Delhi. The info that you got was incorrect. And CP is about 20 or maybe 30 min from here. Of course from Gurgaon where you are at it is much further.

The code puts this in the Embassy/Consulate area of Delhi and not Gurgaon.

Jaybel - don't worry.Vasant Vihar IS in South Delhi bnear the consultaes. Ilived there for 3 years.

In the other thread, someone mentioned that Vasant Vihar is close to Gurgaon - NOT in Gurgaon. Proximity is relative - Vasant Vihar is about 20-25 KMfrom Gurgaon - but from Gurgaon its closer than CP is. From Vasant Vihar, CP is about 10 KM.

Yes it is quite close to the consulates most of which are centred around Chanakya Puri. The address you mention if I recall correctly, is on Pashchimi Marg on the main road. I used to frequent one of the neighbouring houses.

15 minutest the way i drive 30 minutes the way you drive an hour the way the rest of the world drives.. i think that exlains why it takes a long time!

@pagla_dashu : i live in gurgaon, vasant vihar is not less than 17 kms from here.. and vasant to cp is atleast 15 kms.

Just to reiterate that Vasant Vihar is NOT in Gurgaon. The address you mention is very much in South Delhi and the locality houses a few consulates as you said.

CP would roughly be between 12-15 km from there, it's a 20-30 minute drive, depending on traffic conditions.

I live in Vasant Vihar and we'll be close neighbors judging from your address. I really enjoy this area, find it near work, decent shopping and nightlife 5 mins away, close to the airport and everything else South Delhi has to offer. I find there are more cows in my area of VV than many other areas, so if its good enough for them....! Anyway, PM me if you have any more specific Q's. What every one else said Vasant Vihar is in South delhi, close to the airport counsulates and gurgaon and CP, it has a great cinema (PVR) and a nice place for salsa and latin nights at the vasant continental there used to be a store there called modern bazar which was nice for imported food and drink (dunno if it exists any longer)

yes modern bazar was gutted in fire ..bt now it back to its feet...
there r also many bars over there....
in the basant lok market u can also see the latest GYM that hit the delhi (TALKWALKERS) ...nice gym ...with good equipment & coach.
There is also a rebook fitness center in vasant vihar ...

there are many big national & international banks ...
HDFC, HSBC, SBI, PNB, ICICI, Standard chartted...to name a few..

its a nice place to live ...
i know all these as i live there ....anyone out there ...if wish to know more ..will be glad to help
