Upscale Delhi Hotel - which of these?

So I am headed off to India this Jan. This time I will be traveling with my Mother and Sister. My Mother will require a standard (i.e. $$$) that I normally would never consider. After doing some research I have come up with the following options - which would you pick?

We would be just stopping in for 1 day upon arrival, but I want it to be a nice soft arrival for them both.

The Manor
* ~$175
* #1 on http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...lhi_Delhi.html
* http://www.themanordelhi.com/

Oberoi Maidens Hotel
* ~$175
* http://www.maidenshotel.com/

Clark International Hotel
* $100
* http://www.hotelclarkindia.com/

Other options?

I only know about Oberoi Maidens, old hotel, a little far from the city center, so for one day...

I would also look at:
Claridges
Hyatt Regency, may be expensive
Imperial, (good option specially for a first timer, and my first choice), but again, may be expensive.

If money is no option then:

1) Imperial Hotel(Great food)
2) Hyatt Regency(Great Food)
3) Sheraton(Great Food & Bukhara)

.... don't forget the other Oberoi In New Delhi is more centralized, & the Taj Group of Hotels are there.

Intercontinental , The Grand steps down a grade but is fine too!

I am not at all concerned with the location. We wont actually be seeing any of Delhi, the hotel is just a resting point between our arriving flight and our onward visit. Flight arrives early evening and we'll be off to Jaipur on the morning train. Or at least the is the plan this nano-second.

Thank you for the other options, I'll look into them. Although I don't think I can bring my Mother to India to check into a Hyatt

Then the Imperial is IT.

Besides the hotel, it is very central, ideal for a little walk in the evening, and close to the railway station(s). (though the Oberoi is close to the old Delhi railway station, too.)

Well money is certain not, no option erm, somthing. That is, I can't see spending more than $200/room/night.

And, Bukhara... "fifth-largest city in Uzbekistan"?

Yup there's a little portal in every room that enables you to transport yourself to the fabled trading town.

It's actually, one of the better restaurants in Delhi .... just thought your folks might be tired from travel and thus prefer to stay put for dinner .... rather than a shake, rattle & roll across town.

I think the Imperial(at $200.00) is out .... but the others are doable (depending on occupancy) with a little wangling/haggling/bribing.

My Mother was in the tech industry till she retired, so I think she will be quite impressed with the Indian's development of these Delhi<->Uzbekistan portals!!

You are quite right about staying at the hotel for food.

Great options. Thanks for the comments all.

Uppals Orchid is a fine four- or five-star hotel near the airport.

So after doing a little research via TripAdvisor and direct Google search I have refined the suggestions I have received. Also trying to keep within my $200/night/room budget (ha!)

If anyone has more suggestions or some super secret method of getting better discounts, I am all ears.

> Short list
The Manor - Nice reviews on TripAdvisor $225
Oberoi Maidens - Sounds good ~$225

> Not out of the question
Hans Plaza - Over budget, mixed reviews...
Claridges - Over budget, mixed reviews...

> Not so interesting...
Intercontinental, The Grand

> Too Expensive...
Maurya Sheraton - Sounds good and the restaurant and portals really adds something, Looking way to expensive though.
Hyatt Regency
Uppals Orchid - Looks nice, too much money though.
Radisson - Looks nice, too much money though.
Imperial

my 2 cents

5 star hotels in india are expensive.

However try this:

You will get cheaper prices if you book well in advance on the web. To get a cheaper price, try hotel sites directly. Also you can try booking with these travel sites. Sometimes great deals are available.

www.travelguru.com
www.makemytrip.com
www.cleartrip.com
www.yatra.com
www.ezeego1.co.in

My personal favs

1. ITC Maurya (earlier Maurya Sheraton) www.sheraton.com
2. Taj Mansingh www.tajhotels.com
3. The Imperial www.theimperialindia.com
4. Taj Palace www.tajhotels.com

And if you dont mind going all the way to Old Delhi, then you enjoy the hospitality of Oberoi's a their Maidans. At Manor, you may be disappointed.

cheers

A

I think your research is pretty much on the money. The Hyatt, Imperial, Sheraton, etc are all at the $300US mark per night. A recent travel magazine survey of 5 star hotels around the world had the average cost of a 5 star in Delhi at $300 US per night. Mumbai is on par with London and NY - Bangalore more expensive again(it was $400US per night for mumbai and $450-500 for Bangalore). Oh....from now until march its high season (but you probably already knew that).

Going down a different line, Im doing my "soft landing" at the Delhi Bed and Breakfast homestay . Reason, its an Indian family home reputedly with good food and appropriate comforts. They seemed to have carved out a bit of a niche in this, with arranged pickups and deliveries, etc.
Frankly, their prices are not low, but in India out of the generic categories, prices seem to be what the particular market can bear. YOu might want to consider DBB, Master Paying Guest HOuse. Ahuja Residency or such if you dont need the ***** hotel.
