Ola,
i will be coming into Delhi from Newark on a 9:15 pm flight. I need to catch a 7:00 am flight at the domestic terminal. Questions: 1. I was told there's a free shuttle service between terminals? Is that so, and does it really operate 24 hours? 2. If not, what do you think I should get charged for a 8K taxi ride? 3. Money - can I change dollars at that time of the night? Are banks open in the arrival terminal 24/7? Help please! Thanksie! ![]() Last edited by machadinha : Jan 3rd, 2007 at 18:26. Reason: moved to delhi forum |

According to 'to and from the airport' there is an inter-terminal shuttle bus at Rs10 ,By taxi go to the PREPAID TAXI booth and pay Rs100. (zone C)
http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/delhi.html Services run all night. You can change money inside the arrivals hall in the terminal building at Thomas Cook or State Bank of India.I usually do it while waiting for the luggage to turn up. |

Second Mt Kailash, though I think the inter terminal buses are free.
Better than the taxi; less headache, and less chance of getting fleeced. Also, taxis may not be too happy to go such short distances. |

Yes shuttle service is available & changing money is no problem. But the question is how will you spend the night. Would it not be more convinient to stay the night at a near by hotel?

Although I've arrived at Delhi airport more than a dozen times I've never used the inter terminal bus service so I have no idea of cost.I go into Delhi on the EATS bus which also stops at the domestic terminal and charges-though I don't know how much.
As for overnighting-there are Retiring Rooms at the airport -my partner stayed in one-without an advance booking -when in transit to Nepal.Though I've heard there's some at the Domestic Terminal too. Info from the Min of Tourism Airport Retiring Room: Term-l. Reservation Authority, Airport Manager Delhi Airport 1st come 1st serve basis with confirmed tickets only if flying out of the country within 24 hrs., Tel.: 5652021, 5662011. |

My experience is from a couple of years ago, so things may have changed.
The service was definitely free. We had totally different experiences the two times we used it on our trip. On arrival, in the middle of the night, we had to wait about an hour for the transfer bus to arrive(if we'd realised at the start how long we'd wait we would have taken a taxi). But it was only after it arrived that the fun really started. First we had to show both the tickets for our international and domestic flight (in case we were trying to get a free ride across the airport under false pretences!) and all the ticket numbers were entered in a ledger. Then we had all our passport details taken before being allowed on the bus. At this stage there were only 4 passengers on the bus. Then we waited....and waited...and waited. After a further hour the bus was nearly full, and a soldier got on complete with gun. Then a large party of Japanese arrived. And all their ticket and passport details had to be taken.....and then there was no space for them and their lugage so everything had to be reorganised to cram them in. 3 hours after we started waiting we finally started the 10 minute trip to the domestic terminal. The transfer is carried out airside which we guessed was the reason for all the security. On the way back we had decided to take a taxi - life's too short for that experience twice in one trip! But we were delayed inbound to Delhi and very late for our connecting flight, and it was the middle of the day so the roads would have been busy. We were advised by the steward on our Jet flight to go for the transfer bus as it would be faster. We were sceptical, but decided to go for it. There was a bus waiting, taking details took about 30 seconds, and once the driver could see that we were pretty frantic about the connection he just said 'Go now, no wait other people' and took us straight to other terminal. Needless to say, he got a fat tip! Total time start to finish less than 15 minutes. |

Just thought I would post my arrival experience for people making this transfer for the first time:
arrived in delhi, aprox 9 pm. since i had a transfer to a domestic flight in the morniing, (and rather than dealing with delhi touts etc), i decided to try the retiring room at the domestic terminal. while waiting for my bags (after customs), i changed money at the bank a few hundred feet from baggage claim. then, got my bags. wheeling toward the exit, and, just after giving the final small slip of paper to the customs official, (after picking bags), noticed a sign, to my left, that mentioned inter terminal travel : international to domestic. i approached the sign, and i asked a man in a uniform about the retiring rooms at the domestic terminal. a different man stepped up and assured me it was closed. i assured him it was not. he said, 'no madam, the airport hotel'. i said, 'no, retiring room at the domestic terminal, thank you. i have stayed there before' (i lied) at which point he shrugged and went away. then, the quiet uniformed man stepped up, and pointed to a white bus, waitng, outside. a different man came up, put my bags in the back, jumped in the drivers seat, and off we went to the domestic terminal. where i booked a bed 505 r, single, for the night. it was that simple. the bus is free. |
