Hi all,
This is my first post, and I've heard great things about IndiaMike! So. I'm a student researcher from the US, living & working in Delhi & Shimla. I'm not a bad Hindi speaker, and reading and writing come pretty easily to me, but my samajhana is often a bit weak. My problem is this: as I'm a cultural anthropologist, a good deal of my research is conducted through interviews. Over the ten or so months I've been hanging out here doing research, I've accumulated quite a bit of audio material - not all of which I can actually understand! Not to say I'm having one-sided conversations with people, but I'm definitely not catching everything. I'm looking for either a reliable transcription service that won't bankrupt me, or a student who has the time and the desire to make some extra rupees. I DON'T need translation (I prefer to do that myself), and I DON'T need transliteration (it'll just confuse me if I try to read Hindi words in Roman letters). Any suggestions or recommendations? - Danny |

Transcription is not professionally practiced in India, as far as I know. You will be able to get student help if you go to JNU or DU. Post a notice in the hostels.
