Hi guys,
finally 1 week ago I made a reservation for the Shiv Ganga Exp. fron Delhi to Varanasi August 17th (back August 22th).

Unfortunately yesterday I've discovered I will have to go back in Delhi August 21st, not after!

So, I've cancelled my reservation on the web site (http://www.irctc.co.in/) and book an other train for the day before.

Unfortunately now I'm waiting list....

I've 2 questions for you:

1) after the ticket cancellation the Indian Railway give back money or not? From the web site it seems possible, but for my english level is not so clear. Above all is not clear the procedure to obtain the money back.

2) for the new booking I'm now in waiting list. How is working? They debit my account but they do not emit the ticket. When I'll be sure to have the ticket? The waiting list will be open for a long period or they close it in a period of time?

Many thanks for all!

Carlo

1) IRCTC will automatically credit your account with the refund amount when you cancel a ticket. This generally takes 2-3 working days. A cancellation charge will be deducted from the total fare. Rules are detailed here:
http://irctc.co.in/etktcanc.html
http://www.indianrail.gov.in/refund_Rules.html

2) There is a very nice article on IM by steven_ber explaining how Waitlists and RAC work: Indian Railways RAC and Waitlists concepts explained

Hope this helps!

Dont worry, the Shiv Ganga Express has many places reserved for foreign tourists, and some should still be available when you arrive in Delhi, but you can't book these foreign tourist places from outside India.

You should have 2 waitlist numbers, eg. WL5.....WL4

In this example, you joined the waitlist at position 5, but there had been 1 cancellation, so you are now in waitlist position 4.

There's a reasonable chance that WL4 will get confirmed in either 1A or 2A, though neither are guaranteed as the number of berths used is small, WL4 in either 3A or Sleeper Class will definitely get confirmed.

But you always have the Foreign Tourist Quota to fall back on, or other trains, either way, you shouldn't worry.

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.
