time to catch the train?
Hello
I fly into Delhi at 5:30pm on Jan 11 (Sunday) and would like to catch a train from Delhi to Gaya that evening at 8:30pm. do you think that I'll make it? I have't reserved a ticket yet and I believe that the ticket booth in the airport is closed early on a sunday. I looked into booking over the internet but there is a RAC already. ![]() |

It'll be close. Your flight should land on time and then you have to get through customs. Then you have to commute from the airport to ND station.
Will be better to halt the night at Delhi and take the next day's train. Alternatively, there is a train that leaves New Delhi at 22=30, the Purshottam Express. Yes, the reservation office closes at 14=00 hours on a Sunday.

You're setting yourself up for a stressful time in your first hours in India. You could possibly make it if everything went smoothly but with the RAC situation you might have trouble finding a place on the train. By all means have a go but be prepared in your mind to take the later train (if tickets are available) or stay in Delhi overnight. You may be able to get onto a next day's train on the tourist quota. Oh, and by the way, tell your driver that you have a train to catch and that you really, really want to go to the railway station The promise of a decent tip might help. |

We have a few places listed in our hotels section http://www.indiamike.com/listings/li...in gs&catid=1 that are pretty basic and recommended by our members.
Personally I would try to book ahead (just in case you gotta go potty or something so you have a place waiting ).However there are plenty of places close to the RR station and you shouldn't have to many problems finding a cheap room. If you need more help just pm me......I will be around there that night (probably drinking some kingfishers at the Gold Regency or something). Mike |
