Things that tourist can miss,in delhi

I always belived ,the tourist who comes to delhi miss more than what they see.i have strong reasons for that as very few people even dare to explore the art life of delhi which is pretty happening at any moment of year.
It can be film festivals or cultural programes in mandi house or at indian habitat centers or at siri fort.recently i met someone complaining about things in delhi ,I agree with that point of view as most people are in complaining mood when they land here,so here are some tips, hope you will add more to this page with your own share of informations.
Here are some tips......
if you love grooving ....get in your shoes as delhi have a good partying crowd.
if you have good taste buds.....dont be dependent on food guides but explore your taste buds in any corner of city as delhi have good eating joints.
if you like to be in touch with arts circle ....plenty of exhibition going around every week.
if you love hiking or driving ....delhi is a perfect base for north indian hill station, find a friend who could help you chuk out your plan...
if you wana relax...and looking for spas then delhi give plenty of options .
Last advice ...have fun ....delhi is not that bad.....

thanks for this post livesmooth-- was wondering if you could expand on the arts exhibits and cultural events that take place weekly that you mentioned. I'm going to be moving to Delhi soon and would love to explore this part of Delhi which unfortunately I was unable to on my last short visit. Can you suggest any websites/magazines/newspapers that post regular information on events?

thanks!

There's a monthly magazine called "first City" which I find pretty useful. It's got a good listings section for cultural stuff and some interesting articles. I don't always agree with whoever writes teh food section though!

I love Delhi.

Only it's difficult to explain all things that possible in Delhi - I should turn into guidebook.

For people who have lack of time I would advise - don't miss Nizamuddin Dargah and shopping in Dilli Haat.

Rarely explored Mughal Masjid

Delhi is a giant open-air museum, don't miss the monuments and
architectural portals to the past - you may even make new friends with a stray dog or two!

if you are interested in delhi, check out 'city of djinns's by william dalrymple.
in this extremely well written and amusing book, dalyrymple manages to weave his story of living in delhi for twelve months with a huge amount of history and many vignettes of the huge variety of new-delhites.
i managed to avoid delhi, but after reading this i could kick myself - all that history, and life going on around it.

I loathed Delhi the two times I was there. I will read this book on the plane for this next trip. Maybe it will help!

It was just my experience. In Dargah I did not meet any money demands, everything was very beautiful and atmosphere peaceful. Keepers allowed me to make few fotos and did not ask for donation. After some time and exploring everything I came to them and asked to accept my small help - for two Dargahs it was just 200 Rs. Wonderful people.
In Dilli Haat I liked to shop - even if one in Delhi on transit it's worthy experience, prices just little bit higher than normal, but for normal price shoppers should go to such remote places like Ladakh - it's available in South Delhi.
