Kohinoor - can't help you re renting I'm afraid, but to install a split a/c is quite a performance - have you ready suitable plug and wiring, holes through wall for pipe ducting, an accessible position for the motor etc.? If you can't rent, maybe you look into one of those portable a/c's on wheels which I think available in Delhi. Failing that a desert cooler - Symphony, Kenstar, are brands that spring to mind - that is also on wheels and which you place at an open window/door.

I was just looking to buy a split a/c and found the cost and logistics daunting, so wound up with a portable cooler that works great. It doesn't make the room cold like an a/c, but it definitely makes a huge difference in a flat that would otherwise be boiling hot. Sitting in front of it is very refreshing and it only requires a normal outlet, so it can be plugged in just about anywhere. It's Lexus brand, and it's aout 3 feet tall, and 1.5 feet wide. I bought it in Vasant Vihar at Osaba Emporium and it was just under Rs.6,000. If you went this route you could sell it when you leave.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'm just swetting in front of a desert cooler
and I'm afraid it's not enough -
also it makes such a noise and messes up the paperworks.

But it sure is a good help with keeping the mosquitos away.
