Just to add to the previous post, after you get your prepaid ticket, you'll be swarmed by loads of these taxi drivers. Don't follow any of them..you'll have to look for the taxi number mentioned in your ticket. They'll give you some tripe like all prepaid are the same and you can just hop in regardless of the number, please don't do this or else you'll be stranded somewhere with a driver demanding double the mentioned amount. Also, before you leave the airport, the taxi number gets checked by cops stationed at the end of the taxi pathway..make sure you get that done.
I wouldn't recommend the prepaid thing to a first-time India traveler, the swarm of people and useless running around after a flight can really irk you. Best to get an airport pick-up from your hotel. But if you've come to India before, then it's a real good service.

Departing Delhi International. How long before departure should we arrive?? Are there any special 'tricks' -(I've heard that 200 rupees in the right hands gets you through security in under the usual 3 hours!! Surely not true! Is it?)

lol..what nonsense. This is not some banana nation. Getting there about 2 hours in advance is fine ..sometimes you can't avoid the delay because of the insanely long queues. And if you have a lot of baggage, then that just adds to your time. It's just like any other airport.

Delhi International airport took me 3 hours !
3 weeks ago it took me 3 hours from the moment I left the taxi untill to get on board of the plain. No time for coffee. Endless lines of people. My plain left arond 03.00 am. It was definitely good that I arrived at midnight, otherwise I would not have made it. As I understood, all this was due to internal rebuildings of the airport.

delhi airport is going for massive revamp...from runways to terminals,so there are lot of areas blocked for some reason or other. thats y it is taking long time for everything from getting boarding passes or to go through security checks..
so every one is advised to take suffient time in hand to counter any delay... for domestic flights i normally reach 2 hours in advance so that i stay away from panic and tension. |

Pre paid taxi to CP will not cost more then rs 250 + rs 10 per luggague.
and to get a pre paid taxi just go to pre paid taxi both and a take a recipt from them for ur destinaton and show that slip to security guard he will guide u to the taxi show that slip to taxi driver and handle that slip to him only after reaching ur destitation. For me pre paid taxi is always bewst option. |

A question on checked baggage:
I plan on bringing 3 largish sized bottles of vitamins and supplements with me for my 8 months abroad. I know you can buy stuff there but I really like the ones I currently use. Will this prove to be a problem at the airport in Delhi? They're expensive and I don't want them confiscated ![]() |
