The waiting area for the shuttle to the domestic airport is quite nice and comfy. It was never full, and I snoozed on one of the somewhat comfy couches for the night. Also has nice restrooms, if you can believe it! This was last September. It's to the left of where you would exit the international airport, where all the taxi guys are waiting. Just make sure you don't exit the airport, as it will be difficult to get back in. The lounge is BEFORE the exit point. There was a soldier at the entrance to the lounge, making sure people had a domestic ticket. There was also a seating area down some escalators that was also relatively quiet, though there were no bathrooms down there.

Been there. Not recommended. Right near Shanti there are several different hotels, both budget and mid-range. I found a hotel with better rooms and almost twice cheaper than Shanti and also hotel staff were nicer people. Walk around, pick what you like better.

I believe that the airport have undergone quite a lot of changes. It would be nice to get up-to-date information.

Do they have one domestic terminal for arrival and departure?
How long does it take to transfer between domestic and international terminals?
What are the free transfer busses like?
Do I have to fight for a place on the free bus with our suitcases?
Is there any other option like taxi or auto-rickshaw and how much do they charge?

Do they have one domestic terminal for arrival and departure?

http://www.newdelhiairport.in/ - This link has graphical presentation of new domestic terminals. Explains perfectly.

How long does it take to transfer between domestic and international terminals?

From Domestic Terminal 1A, There are free shuttles running every 30 mins. usually takes about 15-20 mins.

What are the free transfer busses like?

Nice, spacious. Enough place for sitting and luggage.

Do I have to fight for a place on the free bus with our suitcases?

LOL. No, everyone is fairly civilised, Buses are spacious and plenty in number.

Is there any other option like taxi or auto-rickshaw and how much do they charge?

Yes, Cabs are available and should charge a nominal fare. Easy Cabs, Avis etc. Autos are cheaper than taxis

Wink Delhi Airport Scam

In addition to all the info on pre-paid taxis [ which I read before I arrived at Delhi so mistakenly thought I was prepared!!] please ensure that you check your money when receiving it from Thomas Cook exchange and paying it to the Delhi Police Prepaid Taxi booth. One of these guys ripped us off with the 100 rupee instead of 500 rupee scam...

I can;t believe I fell for it but when your body clock is 5am and short of sleep, plus used to trusting people ( as from UK ) it is far too easy to fall for this.

Hope this helps someone to get to their hotel without being ripped off.

Hi,
Could you please explain exactly what happened? I am sure it will help others…

Did Thomas Cook gave you incorrect sum of money when you exchanged money at the Airport?
What happened with the Delhi Police for Prepaid Taxi?

We will be at Delhi airport in three weeks time and it is worth knowing what to look for.

Was there any delay due to swine flu check at the airport?

I arrive in DEL internationally at night, and fly back out early in the morning on a domestic flight. When transfering from the Terminal2 to Terminal1 do you have to go thru security/customs again?

You will have to go through Security again but not the Customs.

By Pre-Paid Taxi, you can reach in 15-20 minutes. There is a Free Coach service operated by DIAL, but you have to check the timings from Airport only.

This thread is great!

A friend of mine has a connecting domestic flight from the domestic airport, is there any place where we both can sit and smoke and chat for about 2 hours, with me being a visitor and all.

I know we call always sit in the arrival lounge, has it changed now? Those uncomfortable chairs and no smoking for 2 hours..the thought of it is annoying me!
