I arrive at 4.00 am at the airport, a female travelling alone. What is the safest way to get to YH, 5 Nyaya Marg, Chanakyapuri.
Are there any gov-taxi's waiting outside the airport at night, or better take a pre-paid taxi? |

Better to take a pre-paid taxi, better still to use EasyCabs or Dial a Cab if you can. Even easier is to pre-book a pick up and transfer from a reliable car hire company. This last is the most expensive way to do it.

Does easycabs have an office at the airport, if yes. Is it open at night?

In my case, they didn't let me in. I don't recall why I didn't go to the lodge across the street, waited on the street across the entrance. When inside, there is a business class lodge you can stay in and best of all smoking is permitted there, to be admitted you need to pay a small fee, Rs50 or so.

The airport does not let autorickshaws (any) and taxis not associated with the airport to park there. Why not pay Rs 300? I paid Rs 2000 last time (because didn't know what the normal rate is and got scammed. Also was scammed by the hotel, from which the taxi driver also got a commission of about USD 50).

I can live with the fact that as a foreigner, I will never get a fair price like local people can negotiate. What I wanted to say is that spending 160 Rs for cca 23 km drive at late evening by rickshaw for two foreigner passengers was good deal, especially if bargaining started somewhere at 400 Rs ![]() |

I arrive in Delhi at about 11pm then fly on to Kolkata at 8:20am the next morning. I don't really want to get a hotel. Is there a lounge you can to get into if you're traveling economy? I've waited in that place across the street where they try and charge Rs 30. I'm looking for something a bit more comfortable.

Good luck, but as far as I know those two terms are mutually exclusive.

Rs 160 is a good deal from New Delhi to Airport. Autos in delhi would never go by standard meter even if they chose to you should know the shortest route..
And with accomanying luaggae it is a good deal.. Quote:

Hal, the business class lodge, its in the main building, second floor if I remember correctly. You will need to pay for admission, but its cheaper than the hotel. Tea, coffee, cocoa and fruit juices are included in the price. Its air conditioned and chairs are very comfortable. You can smoke there but you will need to by cigs in duty free because customs confiscate the cigarettes and lighters you have on you. But I don't remember whether you can go there after you arrive, because I did it on my flight home, so I went thru border control and then was able to access the lodge. If you fly to Kolkata from domestic airport (which I assume is the case), the domestic airport has cafeterias where you can sit and smoke, but I don't know if they have a lodge. Anyone has any ideas? Do they have a lodge?
