The Delhi Airport
Quote:
For any international to domestic or vice versa transfers in India passengers have to retrieve their baggage use the inter terminal transfer coach at BOM/DEL airport and then check in again after security screening. The only advantage you have is that at the origin they will tag your bags all the way uptill destination and issue you boarding passes for all the legs. And along with this your baggage will have tags carrying name MAAS which means meet and assist. Once you retrieve your baggage u need to contact the on duty ground personal who will direct you to transfer bus Going Between Terminals
So what if you and a friend are arriving at different international terminals (at the Delhi airport) at around the same time - where's a good place to meet up? And is it easy to get from terminal to terminal?

There is only one international terminal in delhi...assuming both of you are coming from different international locations.
The best place to meet would be after you have cleared immigration and customs....you would find a cluster of shops - forex, pre-paid taxi, domestic airport transit, ...

Further to this please note you would be allowed to avail the inter terminal transfer coach operated by DIAL ( Delhi International Airport Ltd) only if your domestic leg and international leg are on same PNR.
For example you can avail this service if you have bought the ticket from AA for AMD-DEL-ORD where the AMD-DEL leg is operated by 9W (Jet Airways) because of the code share agreement in place or from 9W where AMD-DEL is operated by carrier and DEL-ORD by AA courtsey the code sharing agreement.
You wont be able to access the complimentary bus service incase you purchase a seperate ticket for yourself ie AMD- DEL and then you have another ticket from say DEL to ORD.
In this case you need to hire a cab for the international terminal once u arrive at domestic arrivals.
Hi i have been reading through this thread and have gathered quite a lot of information.
Would i be right in saying - as a first time flyer to India / Delhi, it would be wise for me to arrange for my hotel to send someone to pick me up?
That the person that will pick me up will have my name on a card and could be waiting either inside / outside.
And that exchange rates are high in the airport, but it is worthwhile getting about 750rps for the first night - until i can find some where with a better exchange rate?
The hassle of the prepaid taxi cue seems a bit too much for my first time - and although i will try not to look as if i don't really know what i am doing, i can't guarantee it wont show on my face :P So pre booked seems like the best option?
Also will i be more likely to get hassle at customs if i look like a backpacker?
Cheers,
Luke

Just returned from a long trip in India.
I don’t believe Indian customs will give you any hassle just because you look like a backpacker. They are quite professional. I think they know what they are looking for.
Please note that not all hotels pick customers from the airport. You need to ask if they provide pickup service. We were picked up by a prearranged taxi driver.
Prepaid taxi service is good but you have to queue to buy the ticket and then look for the taxi number they supplied.

Thanks a lot
Only mentioning the customs thing because i have had hassle coming into England before after a stint backpacking.
So looks like its either pre-arranged taxi or hotel pick up. Makes sense!
Indian customs used to have very poor reputation. Taking bribes were norm and passengers were always worried about going through Indian customs.
But they have changed for the better during last 10 years.
Have a good holiday…

Hi all,
I have a couple of questions. I am flying spice jet from Delhi to Mumbai but it doesn't state which terminal...I've checked Delhi airport site, and it looks like Domestic terminal 1a is the one I should go to, anyone flown with them before?
Also how long should I allow for the taxi ride from Pahar Ganj to the airport? My flight is at 10 in the morning on a weekday, I imagine the traffic can get pretty bad.

I have the wisdom of Buddha combined with the body of Peter Andre - oh...no..it's the other way round..
Spicejet departs from Terminal 1D.
Matthew,
Just returned from India and used Delhi airport for Domestic and International travel.
Your departure will be from terminal 1D but the locals will not recognise as terminal 1D. They will be happier and will recognise correctly if you say Terminal 1 departure. Terminal 1A is for arrival flights.
You need to allow a minimum of one hour for airport checkin.

A small correction. Terminal 1A is the old IC terminal from where all the domestic Air India flights depart. It is just besides the entry ramp which takes the car to Terminal 1D (newly built domestic terminal) .Today following airlines operate from the below terminals
T1A Air India Domestic, Go Air, MDLR Airlines
T1D Jet Airways,Jetlite, Kingfisher, Kingfisher Red, Indigo,
Spicejet.
T1C Arrivals for all airlines
Arrived delhi intl. terminal took a prepaid taxi to Domestic cost Rs 130 was there in 20 mins. All is fine and easy so its no prepaid queue. The prepaid guys find u and your Taxi number is noted by the cops so its all safe.
