Delhi to Rishikesh is about 265 km.
Unless you can get a taxi returning to Rishikesh in Delhi, which will be difficult, you will have to pay for the return trip as well. An airconditioned tourist taxi (Tata Indica) should be around 6/6.50 rupees a kilometer.. haggle! A non airconditioned one, maybe 5/5.50. You will be paying for about 530/550 km, including city driving. The airport may be more expensive. Better from elsewhere. Agree with colnago, take the train. |

But i think there is no train for rishikesh. You first need to go to haridwar (train is there from new delhi early mornin at 7 - AC Chair car which reach at around 11 and then an hour from there by bus for rishikesh). Costs around 435 per person.
Even i am looking for same in order to go to rishikesh/haridwar. Any idea about deluxe buses/volvo (prefer from Gurgaon) or any contact information, if someone can help. Regards Ambrish Taxi Rates : 5/- per km for non-ac indica (cheapest I knew. many charges 5.5 or 6 per km) , if you are taking night halt, you need to pay 150/- per night extra to driver. |

Buses run from Anand Vihar ISBT. Not aware of Gurgaon.

Also many taxis may not have an all india permit so will not be able to get to Delhi. Most of them in Rishikesh/ Haridwar have only UA permit.
What I seen couple of time is that taxis from Delhi which have come to drop passengers in Delhi wait outside Hardiwar station and ask for passengers for return trip. The idea is the onward passenger has already paid for return journey and the what the passengers from haridwar to Delhi pay goes into the pocket of the driver.... this however is not something you can plan for. |

A taxi from Laxman Jula (the touist part of Risikesh) to Delhi airport cost Rs2200 a week ago, but I bet you'll be lucky to get the same price going the other way.

One option is Janasatabdi leaving NDLS at 3-40 PM and reaching Haridwar around 7. Good seats non A/C for around 150/-

Should be safe enough. Night driving may well be the biggest risk

There is a serious problem on Indian roads at night, drivers are extremely selfish and rarely dip their headlights, yet at the same time, everyone is trying to overtake everyone else, the glaring headlights make it impossible to see any oncoming traffic that may be trying to overtake, very dangerous and bloody terrifying. India seriously needs a national campaign to try to get drivers to dip their headlights. |

Frankly speaking, if u r indian, no issue at nit bcoz there might be some problem arise but an indian knew how to handle such situation (still i wont recommend to travel at nit due to:
1. As suggested by others, roads are not good at the moment. Improvement is going on but during nit, not feasible. 2. Secondly, even if still want to travel at nit, take a very very good driver, who drivers with care at nit bcoz here in India, on roads at nit, mainly trucks use to be there and forget the low beam at nit. No one takes care of this. It is upto us who should take care about ourself!! Even if you reach 1-2 hours late, it is ok but always go slow at nit.) If you want to reach early to Haridwar, y dont you prefer to start bit early in the morning, say by around 3 or 4 AM so as to reach by 9. Only thing is if you want to see the early morning in Haridwar, stay there for a nit and see the next day early morning ![]() The best part over here is the evening aarti at around 5.30 at Har Ki Paudi, so never miss this!! Sit on the other side of Har Ki Paudi (i.e. on the opposite side of ganga and have a very gud view of the aarti and can take snaps too). |
